Chapter 2: College admission secured

"Good morning mom", Maya greeted walking down the stairs to the dinning room.

"Morning Maya, how was your night?" her mom replied drinking her cup of coffee.

"Fine mom, went well; any news on Dad? Its about time he came back from travel". Maya commented pouring herself a cup of coffee.

"I can see you miss your dad already Maya..." her mom paused, then continued; "....well about that, he called me last night before I went to bed to inform me about his arrival tomorrow; he said he just need to finish up somethings today so they can launch the new branch tomorrow". Victoria answered finishing her cup of coffee.

"Of course mom, I miss dad so much. It hurt me a lot when I realized he couldn't make it for my ceremony but I understand its for our own good, at least you came for me mom and I'm grateful for that". Maya said giving her mom a warm smile.

" I think its been over two weeks since he left already, and if I'm correct... I only got to talk to him like twice or thrice since he left for country E... I wonder how you guys talk and bond while you're checking our first branch in country A". Maya teased with a smirk and her mom chuckled.

"That's between us Maya.... don't worry about that because as his wife and immediate family; I know how to get to my husband faster than anyone". Victoria winked making Maya pout and say, "its unfair mom... stop winking; its really not funny at all".

Then Victoria burst into laughter, her daughter looked so funny at that moment.

"Alright young woman, I don't have the time for your rant this morning, its too early to start the day that way don't you think?..." Victoria asked and continued almost immediately without waiting for a response.

"...let's get the day started with exercise... shall we...?". Victoria commanded and Maya answered nodding in agreement; "....yes mom" then she went into her room to change into a mom comfortable outfit for exercise.

The two women went into the garden and stated jogging. They took one lap around the entire garden before taking a seat on the bench. They rested for few minutes and went on jogging again; after about two laps, they took some bottles of water left on the bench earlier by a maid and then went on again...jogging.

Maya wasn't surprised at the strength and stability of her mom, unlike some women who can't carry themselves, Victoria is pretty strong and agile.

The exercise she does makes her more agile and able to carry herself. Thanks to the exercise and her pretty face she could pass for a woman in her early thirties.

After about a hour or two,

they both went to their various rooms to have their bath. Maya joined her mother at the dinning room after dressing up. Ann already informed her on the graduation day about her visit to her uncle from mother side place so the two only catch up by chatting and video call.

" Well, looking at it from another angle, I really need some time with mom; I mean a week in country A is enough for me to miss her... don't you think? ". Maya asked, recalling her conversation with Ann during their video call the night before.

Of course baby girl, I believe you'd have literally fainted if she lasted one more week their... " Ann winked and Maya grinned.

Of course; she knows she could be very dramatic but she hasn't seen any one as dramatic as Ann; Ann is a total drama queen.

She smiled unknowingly; *ding...* the beep of her phone distracted her thought, bringing her back to the present. Maya excused herself, dropped her cutlery and got up from the dinning to pick her phone at the lounge. She left it there before going to have her bath.

She picked up her phone, opened it and saw Ann's message.

"Hey lovie, you miss me right...? I just couldn't stop sneezing while eating so I thought of you my bestie. I just realized I didn't plug my phone after our chat last night because I slept off.... you must have been worried sick after trying to get through to me right? That's why I'm messaging you to tell you... I'M OKAY MAYA...!!! don't be worried... Okay..?" then she folllowed it by a wink emoji and Maya chuckled.

Remember the thing about Ann been a drama queen?... you just witness a tip of her drama ice berg.

"Yes I got worried okay. Since I can literally see you yelling your lungs out through the text; I'm now rest assured that you're okay and I have nothing to worry about. Be good okay...? Bye...!!!". Maya texted followed by a kiss emoji.

After her text, she took her phone on the table and sat back to finish her lukewarm breakfast.

"Is anything the matter love? You took a while in the lounge you know..." her mom said cutting her meat. "No mom, its nothing... I had a text from Ann so i replied her back.... She just told me she's fine... remember I told you I tried her line severely while we took our rest on the bench when jogging but it wasn't going through, so she texted saying she forgot to plug in her phone last night". Maya explained and dipped her juice.

"I bet she must be enojoying her vacation at Country C". Victoria commented and Maya nodded in agreement.

After breakfast, the two women sat in the living room watching a tv series. And that was when Victoria remembered she hasn't finished her chit chat with Maya.

"So Maya...", Victoria started; we haven't gotten the time to finish our conversation since we both were too tired to continue chatting last night due to the graduation after party stress".

" Yes mom, i remember we were talking about a girl I showed you at the party called Isabella who was my high school class mate". Maya stated and Victoria nodded.

"Yes I remember Maya... isn't she the one you said was the most popular girl in school...? I always remember you say all boys drool after her and does things for her at the snap of her fingers. You also said she likes been the center of attraction". Victoria finally stopped making Maya burst in laughter.

"What..?" Victoria asked seeing Maya laugh then rolled her eyes like a child.

She just doesn't know what was funny in her words that made her daughter laugh. She had over heard Maya and Ann talk about the girl several times and when she asked her daughter; her reply was:

"....she is a popular girl in school who likes having all the attention..." blah blah blah.

She has been so curious since then to see and know who the girl was. And yesterday, she got the chance to... at the graduation party of course. Even without coming close to the girl, she realised she has a nasty attitude.

Letting go of her thought, she said "I know you don't fancy her, but I'm not exaggerating either; am I...?", Maya nodded negatively.

" I only said things exactly as you said and also as I experienced". Victoria said grinning and Maya chuckled.

"Let's forget about the talk then; call me the chef or better still order him, I'm craving blueberry cake". Victoria order and Maya did as told.

Two days later, Maya's dad was already home but was needed at the company so he didn't even spend much hours at home when he arrived from his trip the other day before he got a call again from the company.

Maya's mom been the vice chairman also couldn't rest and had to rush to the company too due to the same emergency.

The new branch was experiencing draw back in sales so everything needed attention.

Ann called Maya to inform her of her visit this morning immediately she got back from her trip. She had decided to crash at her girlfriend's place because of how much she misses her.

"Hello Miss White, and how are you doing?" butler Gary greeted Ann, asking of her welfare with a smile so Ann also responded with a smile. The butler instructed a maid to helped her with her small box into the house.

"I'm fine Gary and you?" She asked. "doing great Miss White" responded the butler smiling back at her.

The moment Maya heard the voice of her friend, she rushed to welcome her and gave her a hug. "I missed you sis" Maya said. "Missed you too sis" Ann replied and they both remained like that hugging and pampering each other like they haven't seen for years.

After the long welcome, they both went into the mansion. Maya helped Ann unpack and the both started catching up.

Ann left Maya's place two days later.

Things went on quietly like that for a month and nothing special really happened except for Maya and Ann's college entrance exam.

The both girls went for reading sleep over alternatively at each other's house until the time of their exam.

Two weeks after the exam; Maya and her parents were having their family time. James, Maya's father brought up a conversation. "Maya dear, he started. "When will the college get back to you because if I'm correct; its been a month you applied and two weeks since your last interview exam". James asked while reading the papers, his glasses on the bridge of his nose.

"Oh my.... Thanks for the reminder dad, I totally forgot. I set an alarm for today already but got occupied after it rang... I'll check my mail now if there has been an update". Maya said and picked up her phone.

She opened her mail and her eyes shown in surprise and excitement.

"Oh my gosh..." she exclaimed running around like a little kid, the joy in her knew no bound. She couldn't beliveve she has been admitted into one of the prestigious school in the country.

It felt like a dream to her. She pinched her cheek and groaned in pain... "ouch.." so it wasn't a dream. She just got a pass into a school where most students found it difficult to get admitted into unless of course through connections.

Though her dad had little connections to make it happen, probably after running around and going on golf meetings, she never told her dad the name of the school she picked because she knows how much he loves her; she is the only child any way so he wouldn't mind going behind her back to make things happen no matter how much she pleads of him not to.

"Dear, what is it... you're scaring us Maya..." her father asked concerned, seeing how she ran like crazy. Maya ran to her mother's side and gave her a peck and also ran to her father and gave him a peck like someone kissing a championship cup. Then she faced the both of them to break the news.

"Mom, Dad..." she started and pursed. Seeing the eagerness on their faces, she grinned and said " I just secured my college admission... woohhh..." she screamed in excitement.

Victoria hurriedly got up to congratulate her daughter. "Congrats baby... I'm proud of you" she said in a shaky voice.

"Congrats princess..." said James pushing his glasses up from the bridge of his nose.

"Now let the cat out of the bag Maya... which business school did you get admitted into?" her dad asked excitedly, making his curiosity obvious.

" I applied to the best school in our country dad. Though its a bit far since its located in Town Q..." She couldn't finish her words because her dad ran to her and gave her a warm hug. " I know the one Maya... you just made us proud. It may be a bit too expensive for us, but with the launch of our new branch; we'll be just fine. I love my princess, my daughter. She doesn't have only the looks but also has the smartness ". Her dad praised placing a kiss on her forehead and Maya chuckled.

" She has taken after the look of her mother while the smartness from me... she takes after me with that..." James praise himself. Victoria couldn't help but chuckle and asked "what do you mean James? Why didn't she take after my smartness ?".

" Let's not start now Vic; not in front of Maya".

Maya shook her head lightly, hiding the laughter forming on her lips. She would never get tired of her parents bicker.

" Father and daughter smart.... Now let's go celebrate shall we ?" Victoria teased smiling from ear to ear.
