Chapter 20: Crushing on Professor Doyle
Maya got home feeling light in heart. She felt like a heavy burden had just been dropped off her shoulder.
She and Ann had already agreed Ann should be the one go to the supermarket to get the groceries.
Since she didn't meet Lydia and Ann at home, it only meant Ann had taken her as a company. Maya chuckled at Ann's behaviour when she remembered her ranting.
Her friend had already confessed to her that she was tired of trying to be a trained woman when it came to kitchen affairs.
Maya checked her wrist watch and saw the time was far spent already. She felt it was a good thing she and Steve met at a breakfast diner or else she'd have literally starved to death.
Thinking of Steve, Maya went up the stairs to her room to take a shower. She knew Steve wasn't feeling too well with the way he departed.
Even she herself didn't expect him to feel well because she know had it'd feel if she was to be in his shoes.
She lied down on her bed then picked up her phone to call her mother. Her mom had been complaining about her health lately so she wanted to make sure she was doing well.
"Hey mom...", she said when her mom picked up on the second ring.
"Maya....", she heard her mother's voice crack and Maya felt a sting on pain in her heart.
Her mother was her everything and she didn't want God to take her away from her yet.
"You picked up my call on the second ring. Where you expecting my call already?", Maya teased, trying to light up the mood.
"Shows how much I miss you princess", her motger replied with a chuckle.
Maya always loved her mother's sense of humor. No joke she cracks ever gets old even if she heard them more than a thousand times.
"How is your health mom and what about dad?", Maya asked twisting her hair.
"Getting better baby. The doctor said it is nothing serious. The only thing I have to do is to make sure I take my medications on time. And about your dad, he travelled again yesterday evening. He got a call so he had to rush out of the country", Victoria said clearing her throat.
She tried her best to stay as strong as sge could. She didn't want her daughter to be worried about her.
She knew Maya and her father talked two days ago about the illness when she was resting on the bed.
Victoria had told Maya and her father the same thing so she was rest assured her daughter won't die worried for her.
"So have you cleared things up with the boy?. You haven't given me the full story behind it", Victoria said, changing the topic.
Maya explain everything to her mother, excluding the oart of the professor of course. She didn't want her mother to know she had feelings that were more than admiring or looking handsome for him.
Steve parked his car at the beach. He had never driven as fast as he did today, no matter the situation but today he did; because of a woman.
He just wanted to get so far away. So far away from Maya and the world if possible.
The normal driving minutes from the location if his meeting with Maya to the beach was fifteen minutes but he arrived in less than seven minutes because he had been driving like a mad man and overtaking cars even on the high way.
He thought he had finally seen the one. His soul mate but there she was asking for a break up and gawking at another man.
A man who is beyond her reach. Her attitude today made him hate the Professor.
He suddenly felt irritated with the man's presence to the extent an urge to punch him in the face developed in him.
"Or was it because he wasn't as handsome as the professor?", Steve questioned himself feeling inferior.
He laughed at himself for letting inferiority step into his mind.
Moreover, the Maya he knew never looked down on anyone, whether smart, dull, black, white, handsome or ugly so he wondered what happened.
"But I've had a lot of girls crush on me and even wish me on their bed", he thought as he sat on the sand.
He felt so frustrated. Even while dating Maya, he had seen some girls wink at him, lick their lips or try to seduce him in one way or the other but he decided to go bat an eye all in the name of relationship and here is where he landed.
He couldn't do those things because he wanted Maya to see the good in him.
"And what was the excess?. Well at least she acknowledged me as a good person and she knew i loved her", Steve said opening a can of beer.
He had bought the beer in his car in case it was as he thought.
Steve gulped down the rest of the beer in the can while walking to his car as he made a phone call.
He knew he shouldn't drive while or after drinking so he called a driver to come pick him up.
Though at that moment, it felt like the world didn't make sense, he had decided not to do something stupid because of the situation.
While awaiting his driver, he played the song 'All girls are the same' by Juice world.
All the girls in his life never lasted more than five months except Maya who ofcourse lasted for a longer duration.
This had him thinking if he was cursed or just receiving a share of the punishment of his father's sins.
The one thing pulling him back in and putting him in order. The order of seeing life differently was now gone so it is now of no use drawing back.
"I know what to do", Steve said burping before making a phone call after emptying five cans of beer.
It was evening and Jerry could swear he hadn't thought about the lecture to be thought in two days time.
He hasn't had the time to sit to think about something else since he came becayse he had been literally jumping from one phone call to the other.
Becoming a professor was like a thorn in his flesh but he knew better than to complain.
He had only had his showers as soon as he came only to get a call from his father.
Jerry sat in his bar all alone drinking his champagne.
"It is about time son....". He recalled his father's first sentence as soon as he picked up.
He sighed. If there was another word for complicated, he would with wide arms accept to use it as a description of his life because his life was more than complicated.
His family was in fact in chaos but he knew better how to handle it. He was of course 'Jerry', 'Jerry Doyle', a true blood of Doyle.

"I love you lips. They look delicious. I want to have a taste of them", he said to her authoratively rather than a demand and she blushed.
He then with his right hand second finger trailed the line of her face right from the back of her right ear to her jawline and she gasped and closed her eyes gently.
His touch alone sent waves of shock right from her spine to the rest of her body. She felt her hormones vibrate in excitement.
She stiffened like she was out of air. She could feel the racing of her heart beat like it was on a marathon competition.
This man could make her heart palpitate even for a second without giving up the ghost.
Again, she felt his hand tuck her hair at the back of her ears and her face flushed.
She could feel his hot breath hitting her face as it got closer. She parted her lips slightly to welcome him.
His distracting scent was strong and it smelled like pepper mint. She wondered if it was his body wash or cologne.
All she knew was that she loved it and would always love whatever he smelled like.
Before she could have one more thought, she heard a loud ring and a light flashed on her face.
It was then it dawn on her.
"What...?! it had all been a dream...?", Maya thought feeling disappointed as she gently opened her eyes so they could adjust to the light.
"Ohhh... Crap. I've got class today", Maya cursed. It had totally skipped her mind. Her alarm had been her friend from the past seven days.
She sluggishly got up and changed into her towel. She had been having such erotic dreams since the day she met the professor at the diner.
It was that day she took note of every feature she could on him. Though they had up to two classes after that of which of course she took as an advantage to gawk.
There was a time last week he passed their chair role while explaining. It was then she took note of his peppermint scent.
She could no longer deceive herself again. Even if she didn't want to admit it from the very beginning it started, it was now official.
She has a crush on her professor...!!!
