Chapter 29: Confessing to Professor Doyle

It was finally Thursday. A day after Maya's birthday party. Maya had already sent an appreciation message to her department's group, appreciating those who came to celebrate with her and those who attended the party replied to it.

While those who were not chanced to congratulated her and promised to present to her their gifts the next time they take class together.

Maya's mother and friend's mother, Sarah, including Sammie had decided to leave the following day which was on Friday.

Victoria and her daughter were both seated in the garden while they awaited their cup of tea and cake from a maid.

The garden had been already organized by the workers immediately they all went to bed.

All that remained were cleanings of nylon wraps, tooth picks and the likes.

Victoria couldn't stop thinking about what she saw during the party. It was obvious her daughter was in love with the man but the man's face was blank of emotions.

She could not read anything in it and she feared for her daughter because of that. She didn't know if the man liked her daughter or not and she wouldn't want her to make a mistake.

"Maya....?", Victoria called as she looked intently at her daughter.

Maya knew something was wrong with the way her mother looked at her and she could have already guessed what her mother wanted to say because she clearly saw the way her mother looked at she and Jerry the previous day.

If looks could melt, she was sure she'd have melted like a mozzarella cheese.

"Yes mom....", Maya replied.

"Do you like your Professor?. I saw the way you blushed while you both talked", Victoria said and Maya went speechless.

Her mother knew she was probably thinking of how to turn the story or hide the fact.

Knowing her daughter so well, Victoria quickly said; "Go straight to the point and be free with me Maya. I'm your mother"

"Thank you....", Victoria said again as a maid brought their tea and cake.

"Yes mom. I... I like Professor Doyle", Maya replied, coming clean before her mother after knowing fully well that she had been caught red handed by her mother.

"And you didn't bother to tell me? We talk on phone almost everyday Amaya. Why did you hide it away from me?. By the way, when did it start?", Victoria scolded her daughter then sipped her tea.

Maya on the other hand lowered her head like she was receiving strokes of cane from her mother on her back.

"I'm sorry mom. I didn't mean to. I just did know how to tell you i have feelings for my professor because its absurd to say", Maya said, taking bite from her cake.

"Also absurd to say to your own mother?", Victoria asked with a straight face.

"I'm sorry mom", Maya replied.

Victoria poured her thoughts out to Maya. She told Maya about her fears of Maya's love not been reciprocated.

Maya on the other hand didn't tell her mother of her suspicions or the thoughts she had about confessing because she knew so well how her mother was.

' Definitely she won't agree to it so why bother her with my problems? ', Maya had thought while they spoke.

Samantha, Victoria and Sarah left the following day. Jason who is Ann's father had left after the ceremony so the three were the ones remaining.

Maya had told Sam and Ann about the discussion she had with her mother.

THE FOLLOWING WEEK MONDAY

"Maya.... You have a phone call", Ann shouted from the dining.

"Whats the name on it?", Maya who was up the stairs at the second living room asked as she went down the stair.

"No name M. Its a private number. Country code is different", Ann replied before she started eating.

Their class was supposed to hold by 10:00am this morning and they were busy preparing to go.

Maya came down to the dining and picked up her phone. Looking at the strange number, she thought who might have called her.

"I don't know who it is Ann", Maya replied as she also sat to eat.

"Call the number then....", Ann suggested but Maya shrugged nonchalantly.

"The caller would have probably called back if it was so important", Maya replied and Ann nodded positively in support.

We had breakfast and got into the car with me sitting at the driver's seat because i am in a great mood.

Today is the day i would pour out my feelings to Professor Doyle through my confession letter.

Few minutes since we hitted tge road, I heard my ohone ring and Ann assisted me with it.

"Its the strange number again. Pick up immediately so we can know who has called", Ann said and assisted me to connect the phone to the car and i picked up

"Hello Maya....", a woman spoke and I and Ann shouted in unison as we immediately recognized the voice....

"Aunty Beth....?"

I had totally forgotten i had an Aunt who is my father's younger sister since she decided to seperate herself from our family.

"Ohhh... Is Ann also there....? You both sound like you've heard a ghost", Beth replied with irritation.

' Yes... We've heard a ghost since we've totally forgotten there is someone called Beth Williams or better still Beth Cruz since you're married '. I thought and rolled my eyes.

"Yes Aunt Beth, I'm also here...", Ann replied also rolling her eyes.

"Are you not happy to hear from me?. Its been a while girls...', Beth said and Ann thought sarcastically...

' Its been years ma'am not a while... '

"We're happy to hear from you Aunt. How are you and family...?", Maya asked as she turned the wheel.

"Fine dear.... Sorry I couldn't attend the party. I called to greet you dear. Sadly I have to go now duty calls...". The girls both heard Beth say and they scoffed silently at the same time.

"Bye Aunt Beth. My regards to Uncle Nic and Olivia", Maya replied while Ann also bid her goodbye and Beth hung up.

"I could count how many times she called to wish me since she left and now she talks like she's been calling like a good family...? I can't believe this", Maya said in anger and utter disbelief as she parked the car in the school parking ground.

"I'm not suprised if she won't call until the next two years. She stylishly hung up like we're kids or fools", Ann said with a smirk as they got out of the car.

"Let's forget that and move to the next topic for discussion M. Whats the plan now?. How would you get the letter to him?", Ann asked in a whisper as they walked to their department building.

"I know a way to get him to see it", Maya smiled, looking at Ann knowingly.

"Alright.... I trust you would", Ann said.

Jerry got to his office, looking so exhausted. He had ignored Megan the whole day while surprisingly, she also did.

He pulled off his jacket from his body and sat down on the black leather chair in front of his table.

Then, a red rose attached to a pink envelope with rosy design caught his attention. He picked up the envelope and looked at it closely.

A nice fragnace came from the envelope and Jerry thought it came from Megan.

He picked up the rose and sniffed it in.

"Smells nice.... Lets read what Megan has to say", he thought as he opened the envelope to read it's content.

"Dear professor Doyle... I've thought and thought about it and each time I do... I always come to the same conclusion which Is to be honest with myself and tell you how I feel about you. I know it sounds kind of strange or absurd since it is coming from a lady but I can't just help it any longer. I've loved you since the day I set my eyes on you. The momet i did, I felt like we are fated together. There is this pull I feel towards you that I just can't explain and I also know you feel the same with me. If not you won't have come to my party and also gifted me or even know my name. To cut the long story short... I AMAYA WILLIAMS LOVE YOU PROFESSOR DOYLE. Kindly let me know if you feel the same way about me. In case you feel shy, you can reply to this letter and send it to my mail box with the address below", and that was the end of the letter.

If there was anything Jerry hated most, it was a woman pushing herself on him or making the moves.

This attitude was something that had turned him off from a lot of women.

' Not like she has a chance with me anyway but what is the meaning of this bull sh*t...? And how did it get here in the first place...?', Jerry thoght as he raged in anger.

He went out of his office and immediately looked for Maya everywhere but she was no longer in school.

Picking up a pen, he wrote back to her and putted it back in her envelope along with her rose which he also attached back to envelope.

Maya smiled as she saw Jerry walk out of the lecture hall.

'He should have seen the letter by now...', she thought with a smile as she check her watch and saw it had been over ten minutes since he left.
