Letitia gets hit in the face

Letitia was at that moment chatting with Nancy in the garden. Nancy had been with Barry for a long time and had been through a lot and Letitia enjoyed listening to her chat.

"Barry has a terrible temper." Nancy saw the wind picking up outside and got up to close the window and sat on the trellis wiggling her feet, "When I was first bought home by him he hit me once when he was drunk and I couldn't hear out of this ear for a long time."

She waved her right ear at Letitia, a small earlobe with a warm, shiny pearl earring.

Letitia listened with some fear and asked worriedly, "Oh my God, so you can still hear now? He's too ..." She couldn't say the rest.

"It's not what you think." Nancy also realised she hadn't been clear: "He didn't touch me for a long time after he hurt me and I didn't know I had a fever, I was so feverish I couldn't hear because my ears were inflamed, not because he hit me too hard."
