Duke Landier stepped forward, Soul Stone in her hand, she placed it between them and whispered an ancient incantation, channeling its power.

As the spell began, Alice suddenly tilted her head, her graceful neck raised almost in a straight line with her chin. She stared blankly at the roof, as if trying to see the obscured sky, so focused, so eager.

As the last syllable of the incantation fell, she closed her eyes and a line of tears slipped from the corner of her eyes.

Her head drops.

No more sound was heard.

"Did it work?" Lestat's voice tightened as he asked his mother nervously.

Lestat hurriedly untied the blonde girl and caressed her cheek, murmuring slowly, "Alice ..."
