An Obligation of a Mother

At the realization that came to June all of a sudden, his gaze grew frosty. This Father Tobias was a man of the church; he was supposed to be resistant to demons. How could he feed one and not notice? Moreover, Belledel was aware of this phenomenon. Did that angel not care that someone among their chosen people was corrupted?

"Lady Lucia, is something wrong?" Tobias seemed to notice the look in June's eyes, but the actor only took it back and smiled a little. The priest then looked at the full belly of the woman. "It won't be long before you meet God's gift to you. Such a shame that your husband has passed on before he could even see the look in this precious one's eyes."

Around them, however, June noticed how the servants tried to look away and avert their gazes from the eyes of the lady. He wondered why, but they all seemed to know something that Tobias did not. Perhaps Lucia did, but her memories did not flow into June.
