Chapter 11

Just the sight of Claude dragging Jessica around by her wrist was enough to make my shoulders puff up like prey in the sight of a predator. His eyes weren’t black like I originally thought, but they were just as cold. He glanced down at me, the intrusion.

Then he recognized me.

“You,” he stated, his thin lips curling upward into a snide smirk. He dropped Jessica onto the grass. She looked so dizzy and confused. Her wrist started to bruise like he was gripping her too tight.

“Keep your hands off my friend,” I shouted, grabbing Jessica by her other hand and pulling her protectively behind me.

He looked past my shoulders at Jessica, his eyes dancing in a way that confused me. “I was just trying to help her get home. Right?”

Jessica looked confused and she gripped her head. “Yeah, right. No. Ugh.” She wasn’t making any sense.

Claude took one step toward me, hand outreached to take Jessica’s. She wasn’t looking at him anymore. I got right in between them again.
