Despite their injuries, which were not healing well, Alyssa and Derek had been able to stay steady on their course onto the Accursed Plains and put a good amount of space between them and the fortress. However, once the sun began to rise so did the temperature on the plains, and without a source of water or her satchel filled with its many kinds of provisions, the two of them were struggling to keep a steady pace moving forward. The plains they were traveling on weren’t completely barren and flat, and in many places, there were large boulders that were clustered together, or of thickets of dry underbrush, and the occasional patch of dried, twisted trees without any leaves.
“Let’s stop for a moment and rest.” Alyssa said stopping and took a seat on a nearby rock, Derek did likewise, and even though it was very warm she could tell he was perspiring more than he should have been. “How’s that shoulder of yours doing?”
