Chapter 28: A Surprise

Abigail's POV

Elle insisted she drive us to her place, despite me insisting that it would be too much work for her.

“I grabbed you an iced chai latte on my way over,” she pointed to the cup holder. She had my drink next to a coffee cup with dark liquid. I assumed it was her usual, simple black coffee order. “I know it’s one of your favorites.”

“You didn’t have to,” I said. I held it with both hands and took a refreshing, cool sip. I savored each moment with the chai latte specially chosen by Elle and studied the flavors on my tongue. It was spicy and sweet, just like Elle.

“I wanted to cheer you up a little bit,” Her voice was soft and delicate around such a sensitive topic. “Are you okay, Abby?”

“I’m alright,” I answered. “I’m more emotionally damaged than physically.”

“I’m so sorry, Abby,” she said. Her grip tightened around the steering wheel, and her knuckles turned white. “If that witch ever lays another hand on you –”
