Chapter 45: Abigail Moves Out

Abigail’s POV

I drove slowly to Momma’s place. The roads were still except for a few leaves that blew in the whistling wind.

I left Elle’s at 10 p.m. I assured her several times before I left that I’d only be an hour to throw my belongings into boxes, baskets, and whatever I could carry. That wasn’t enough to ease her nerves. She walked me to the car and held my hand like I’d get lost on our short walk down her driveway.

“I’ll be back, Elle,” I spoke to the air in my car, fresh with the natural summer nighttime air that filtered through my cracked window. “I promise.”

Momma’s house was still and dark except for a cold, artificial glow that dimly lit the living room. She probably passed out with the game show channel on as it served its only real purpose.
