Chapter 55: The Trebbon Trial

Oliver made his way toward Vamira, but, seeing that she looked away quickly as he approached, changed his mind at the last moment and went to stand on Odeile’s other side, putting the older woman between them.

A nauseating mix of guilt and terror was churning in his stomach.

“Do something!” Zarine’s head, a wolf’s again, supported by a tail of mist, appeared beside him.

‘Like what?’ Oliver asked wildly inside his head.

Zarine snapped her jaws beside his ears. “Like making peace with these two women, fool, before you end up with both feet in the grave!”

Oliver knew she was right. He had been putting off his decision whether to join Vamira or not, and now, suddenly, his reluctance could very well get him killed. He leaned toward Odeile. “I need to talk to you about something...” he muttered out of the corner of his mouth.
