Chapter 13: Happy Halloween

She sits on the balcony connecting to Cora’s living room, the cool metal chair a soothing presence for the muscles of her thighs where they are crossed under the table. The breeze is sleeping, letting the potted flowers and orange-leaved sycamore trees soak up the suns’ rays undisturbed.

Her laptop is on the matching white metal table in front of her and her notebook in front of that. Both lay open, blue lines on the page clear all for the title of the lecture she scribbled along the top. The PowerPoint presentation slides past, uncaring that she isn’t paying attention and is instead twisting her pen in between her fingers.
