I nod in agreement and follow Abby through the room and down the dark staircase, leaving everyone upstairs. The stairs are enclosed by cement walls as it descends to the level below, deep into the ground.


“I wanted to be the first one down here,” Abby says as she looks over her shoulder at me. “I want to be the first to find something juicy, remember?”


I chuckle at her determination. I have to give it to her. She is eager to find something hidden down here that has been missed for a century. But I’m just here to explore and imagine what it would’ve been like for a vampire clan to live here. There is so much I don’t know about them yet, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to learn a thing or two.


“Your determination is admirable, but I don’t think you’ll find anything,” I say as we step off the staircase and walk into a very dimly lit room.
