River’s POV
“Good game, man,” Nate cheers as he slaps me on the back.
I turn to look at him over my shoulder just as he’s pulling his sweaty, grass-stained jersey over his head. I shoot him a grin as I pull a fresh black t-shirt over my head.
The game tonight was amazing. I played better than I ever have, and I think that was due to Hallie being in the crowd. I didn’t think she would accept my offer to come after what had happened the other day, but I’m glad she showed up.
Seeing her bright smile and innocent eyes before I ran out onto the field gave me a confidence booster because I knew she would be watching from the crowd, and I wanted to impress her. Knowing she is still by my side after the bombshell I dropped on her made me the happiest I have been in decades.
