The sun is setting low in the sky by the time we return to the dorm. Because I don’t own a car, I had to call a taxi to pick us up from the warehouse and drive us across town to campus. The driver gave us both a weird look as we got into the car because I’m sure it’s not every day he gets a call out to an abandoned warehouse in the afternoon with an injured person.


I knew River was injured by the way he was groaning in the car whenever we went through a pothole or over a bump. He told me not to worry, but how could I not when he was in pain? Especially after what I witnessed at the warehouse. Something went down there and I’m hoping he will confide in me.
