Chapter 114

Bent over a child-size toilet, Maddie set her hands on her knees and fought a wave of dizziness. Her third one in an hour. Her muscles cramped, her bones ached, and the fever she woke up with this morning was making a comeback.

Throat tight, eyes burning, she shook her head and straightened. She'd just have to cancel. She'd been looking so forward to a night alone with him. Dinner. Talking. More. Ah, the more. She was unequivocally ready for more.

But there was that bitch Karma again, rearing her head. What's this I hear? Maddie Freemont seems happy? Excited? Finding a bit of good luck? I must put a stop to it immediately.

Boom. The flu.
