Chapter 41

"I can't believe this doppelganger isn't over." Sammy set her tea down on the kitchen table between them. "Why didn't you tell me? We thought you were safe."

"She didn't tell anyone," Paul muttered, nailing Kerry with a glare from his spot on the couch.

Yeah, she was the worst friend ever. They'd been at it all night in Black Canyon, on one of their most active investigations to date. She was freakin' wiped. The sun was up and they had precious few hours to sleep. The cameramen and the techies had already turned in.

"Look," she said. "We're all beat. Let's get some sleep and we can discuss my rudeness later."

"Hold on." Cain took a seat between Kerry and Sammy at the table. "I have a friend who's really into unsolved mysteries and strange cases. A few days ago, I asked him about doppelgangers, and he just got back to me. Seems the information we've been going off of is correct. However, there is another common theory, one that started near the turn of the century."
