Chapter 30: Unexpected

“Come on! This is our last year of high school! We can’t deny these Neanderthals the pleasure of seeing me in a tuxedo and you in a dress,” Jasper whined.

Keeping my distance from Jasper has been the toughest part of cutting Wes from my life. I don’t have any right to tell Jasper that he can’t hang out or be friends with Wes anymore. Jasper met Wes first, and their friendship has been good for Jasper.

“Last time I checked, I don’t do dresses,” I said.

“Last time I checked, you’re in love with a California boy who’s probably gonna be at the Winter Formal. That means your beautiful self in a stunning cocktail dress is the way to get a gold medal to his heart,” Jasper explained.

I rolled my eyes and shut my locker. Jasper and I walked through the hallways towards the library. It’s freezing outside and I haven’t had an appetite in days, so sitting in the library has been my only solace.

“How’s Wes doing?” I asked, seeing him sitting alone at a table in the library.
