Chapter 2

A young man was lying on the bed. His hair is short and black, and his facial features are considered average. Though he appeared slim, one can tell he has a well-built body, most likely as a result of extensive training. His bright teal eyes were darting around as if he were reading something.

Caleb was reading a manual and the game's summary, Legacy.

The game was a better version of previous virtual reality games. It could accommodate all of the player's senses in addition to having a full dive mechanism attached to it. Taste and other previously unavailable senses have now been added. As a result, Legacy was dubbed "the perfect and complete game."

After reading the content, Caleb grips the gaming helmet in his hand and carefully wears it. He shifted his gaze to his right side and saw the clock on the wall.

It was already 5:58 pm. Usually, his mother would come home from work at seven in the evening. He has already left a note at his door so it will notify his mom when she comes home.

At exactly 6 pm, Caleb gently pressed the start button within his helmet as he slowly closed his eyes, ready to dive into the game.

"Welcome to Legacy!"

As Caleb opened his eyes, he was greeted by a cheerful voice. He was in some kind of white room, and in front of him was a small green fairy flying around.

"My name is Faie, and I welcome you to this world of countless legacies!"

The fairy encircled him and smiled cheerfully at him. Caleb just stared, wondering how long it had been since he had seen this kind of fairy.

"By entering this world, you've agreed to challenge it. Oh adventurer who has a chance to make a legacy, may I know your name? "

"Azrael" Caleb quickly replied to the small fairy. Previously, he also used this as his in-game name.

"Azrael the brave, the world was full of danger and you need power. By choosing your main class among the four categories, you will be able to challenge this world."

A flash of light flickered on the little hands of Faie and suddenly four translucent panels appeared floating in front of Caleb. Upon a closer look, the panels have different content in them containing the main classes.

Warrior:

Berserker, Knight, Shield Warrior

Weapon Specialist:

Swordsman, Thief, Archer, Lancer

Mage:

Elementalist, Warlock, Necromancer, Witch

Priest:

Cleric, Exorcist, Oracle, Druid

These are the classes included in each category. Each class's information was listed. Their distinctness and specialization were also considered.

For the class in the Warrior category, they have high capabilities in defense and tanking.

While Weapon Specialist was a category in which each class had a unique set of weapons. They are the most capable of inflicting physical damage.

Mages, on the other hand, are concerned with magical damage output. Finally, classes in the Priest category specialized in healing and support.

Caleb didn't mind the other panels because he already knew what he was going to pick.

His main class, the one he used to destroy countless guilds in the past, is also the reason the Cardinal guild was established.

He moved forward and came to a halt in front of one of the panels, the [Weapon Specialist] category. He lightly touched it, and it vanished with a 'poof' as four new smaller panels appeared in front of him.

Swordsman, Thief, Archer, and Lancer.

These four classes were all part of the same category. Caleb didn't hesitate and lightly tapped the [Swordsman] panel. In that instant, he was covered in light as he heard a 'Ding!' mechanical sound in his head.

His attribute panel suddenly projected at him.

AP: 0

———

There are six attributes presented, and each of these attributes serves a specific purpose.

The Strength attribute can affect physical attack damage and the rate at which knockback occurs. Magic, on the other hand, is used to increase maximum MP, magical damage and MP recovery rate.

Dexterity is simply an attribute of reflexes and agility. It can improve the attack and movement speed. It can also affect the player's accuracy.

Vitality can influence resistance and defense. It can also affect stamina. Constitution attributes can greatly influence the HP recovery rate and the maximum HP of the player.

The last was the Perception attribute. It can increase the perception of sight, smell, and hearing. It can influence the ability to perceive and detect traps or enemies.

Caleb understands that these attributes are the foundation of a swordsman. Because they deal physical damage, classes in the [Weapon Specialist] category prioritize strength and dexterity. A thief, for example, requires dexterity to attack and move quickly.

His current Attribute Points (AP) were displayed at the bottom. Every time a player levels up, they gain 5 AP and could put it in any attributes.

In the early stages of the game, players' attributes will be similar, but later on, they will differ depending on how they will allocate the AP and what they prioritize, resulting in a variety of gameplay and style.

Many players will experience headaches during this phase, but Caleb was unconcerned about these things. Because right now, he is currently considered as the game's ultimate beta tester.

He played in the swordsman class for six years, and he knows countless techniques for this class like the back of his hand.

"Class selection complete. Now please choose your starting place."

A map of the world appeared in front of Caleb after Faie the fairy said this. The vastness of this world astounded him once more. There were numerous kingdoms scattered across the land, with large cities occupying them. This world was large enough to house a billion players.

Caleb immediately chose the Warthford city with which he was most familiar. It was a city in the Western Kingdom of Nirattha.

"Preparation is complete. You will arrive in one of the towns of Warthford City in five seconds. Good luck and may you build your legacy!"

Following the disappearance of the small fairy, the surroundings became distorted as the sight in front of Caleb was bathed in bright light.

He closed his eyes and after two seconds or three, he was now standing in the street. Around him were buildings that quite resembled the style of medieval times.

Several lights were formed around him and countless players were starting to emerge one after another. They looked around with excitement as they were experiencing the new and improved quality of the virtual reality game.

While others are currently familiarizing their respective bodies, Caleb started to organize his equipment.

Requirement(s): Strength 1

SKILLS

[Slash] (Active)

Level: 1 (0/10)

SP: 0

All of his equipment was common. The ranks of equipment were: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Unique, Epic, Legendary, and Mythical.

Although the system gave him several pieces of equipment and it was rated as a common item, it had no special attributes attached to it. It was different from the other common items someone can get from farming.

It was the lowest item in the game.

In his skills tab, he has a [Slash] skill. It was a basic skill that could increase his physical damage by 10%. It has a cooldown of 10s and a mana cost of 5.

His skill points (SP) are currently at 0 as he needs to level up first. Each player could obtain 5 SP points with each increase in level. These points can be used by the player to level up their chosen skills. For example, the basic skill [Slash] needs 10 SP to level up.

Just like Attribute Points (AP), the different ways players used these points would result in their unique style.

Caleb, on the other hand, already has plans for what skills he wants to acquire and prioritize in the future. He also knows what equipment he will obtain as he progresses.

He then takes a look around him. The influx of new players into the game was still going on. They spawn one after the other, light after light.

After seeing this, Caleb decided to move and begin his journey, walking towards a specific location.
