A Rift is a space that is similar to a dungeon but usually has floors inside. It was a place just waiting to be discovered.
To gain access to the 'Rift' one should have to touch the item or thing to which it is linked. These items are scattered throughout the world of Legacy, and players frequently come across them by accident.
Level restrictions have also been assigned to each Rift, and a player can only access it once. If one happened to stumble into this location and their level was low enough, death was the only way out.
There was also a limitation on the number of players who could enter a Rift based on its condition and difficulty.
The Rift of the Cursed Swordsman has a C difficulty and can only be entered by one person at a time. Caleb knows about this place because it was the first Rift discovered by a level 6 Lancer in his previous life.
In the end, the Lancer was unable to quickly clear it, losing two levels. It was a harsh punishment, but when people learned about it, they continued to challenge the Rift, particularly Swordsmen.
Caleb's vision returned, and he was greeted by a vast meadow. The time changed to night, and the only source of illumination was the moonlight, which seemed to mingle with the stillness of the plains.
With the fresh air blowing, the weeds moved and at the same time, he moved his body and skillfully turned around while swinging his sword.
"urkk ..."
He heard a faint growl mixed with pain and surprise.
But Caleb did not pay attention to this because in the next second his sword shone slightly and he guided it perfectly to the creature that was now in front of him.
slashh!
A -27 damage appeared on the monster's head.
——
[Mad Goblin] (Normal)
Level: 1
HP: 32/80
——
At first glance, it looks like a child but its color is green and it has long ears. It is a Goblin but it does not carry a club, in its hand was a sword instead.
The two attacks from Caleb cleaved the life of the goblin in half.
It retaliated against him but he slightly moved to the side and quickly made a counterattack, slicing its head. Critical damage was made and the goblin burst into light.
He never stops however and activated his [Moon Slice] skill to his left side, the wave of energy advanced towards the two approaching [Mad Goblin].
-55, -50
Two large numbers floated in each of their head. Wasting no time, Caleb then rushed quickly to the goblins and landed a few several chops to end their life.
A total of 40 EXP for three goblins was added to his level bar. Since goblin was a level 1 monster, they barely give a decent amount of EXP.
He then focused on the other side where a group of 12 [Mad Goblin] were madly dashing towards him. They are weak monsters but if he'll get caught by this mob, he will surely lose health. He decided to turn around and started to run away.
Since his movement speed was larger than theirs, he can easily toy these monsters. When his skill refreshed, he occasionally let out a [Moon Slice] to the group, gradually decreasing their number.
Caleb drink an MP potion to replenish his mana and by the time his stamina run out, only three goblins left remained. He stood in defense, using small but precise movement to evade and counterattack every attack of the goblins.
slashh!
- 25
[System: Level 1 [Mad Goblin] (Normal) was killed. Obtained 15 EXP]
[System: You leveled up!]
After killing all the 15 [Mad Goblin], he had managed to cover up the remaining 190 EXP he needed to become level 4.
[System: Floor 1 has been cleared. Transferring to Floor 2 in five minutes.]
After seeing the notification, he decided to rest in the middle of the meadow plain. He checked his stats and a single Bonus Attribute was added in his Magic causing his mana to increase to 100.
He placed his 5 Attribute points to Dexterity 2 and Strength 3 causing his attack and movement speed to 10, Physical attack to 28.
[System: Dexterity reached 10. The hidden skill [Swift Blade] has been unlocked.]
Caleb already knows what skill will be unlocked if an attribute reaches a certain threshold.
[Swift Blade] was a passive skill that gives the swordsman a 20% chance to inflict double damage to the target. This passive skill will be helpful especially to the enemies that are slow in movement but have higher HP.
After checking his stats, he retrieved a bread in his bag while waiting for the countdown to zero.
After five minutes of waiting, he was transferred to a forest. Still, it was nighttime and the only light was the rays of moonlight that penetrated from the canopies of trees.
The surrounding was dark but Caleb remained calm. He closed his eyes trusting his perception, listening to the sounds of leaves.
Seconds had passed, he suddenly swayed his body to the left side twirling his sword as he fully swing it to his front.
Blood splurted, it shined under the moonlight as the black silhouette received Caleb's attack.
This creature was like a hyena or a wolf but it stood in feet like a human. This was a [Forest Gnoll].
——
[Forest Gnoll]
Level 2
HP: 132/180
——
A level two monster that usually roamed with an ax but this time, in this Rift it carried a sword.
Caleb opened his eyes and focus on attacking the monster. He activates a [Slash] skill, grazing its body before he leaps to his left side, avoiding the incoming attack from another [Forest Gnoll] in his back.
It planned to sneak at him but Caleb noticed it in time and barely evaded the attack.
"As if!" He shouted as he regained his footing before smoothly turning 360 degrees as he swing his sword down to it.
He then shoves that monster to the other before letting out a [Moon Slice] damaging the two at the same time.
- 75, -82
Satisfied with the damage, he retreated to some distance.
The first [Forest Gnoll] was enraged as it let out a howl skill to increase its movement speed. It then rushed to Caleb slashing its sword.
But in Caleb's eyes, the speed was still bearable. After all, a level 2 monster can't surpass his stats. He slightly swayed his body as the blade just passed in him and land a [Slash] counterattack.
[System: Level 2 [Forest Gnoll] (Normal) was killed. Obtained 35 EXP]
After killing the Gnoll, a piece of equipment has dropped from it. Caleb just barely looked at it before lashing out to the remaining enemy. [Swift Blade] was then activated easily killing the gnoll.
It burst into light before dropping another item. He was elated by this result as he quickly picked up and checked the two.
——
[Sword Bleak] (Uncommon)
Requirement(s): User level 2, Strength 1
Effect(s): Attack power +8, Attack speed +1
Class Limitation: Swordsman
——
——
[Book of Perception] (Rare)
Effect(s): Add 2 Perception attribute
Class Limitation: None
——
"Nice! Though my [Bleed] was better than this, I still have this book." Caleb muttered after he checks all the properties and shifted his attention to the [Book of Perception].
This item was rated as Rare so Caleb was quite happy obtaining it. He quickly consumes it and his Perception attribute increase to 6.
Monster in level 4 and below that in stealth mode would be now easy to detect. Incorporating his reflexes and speed, Caleb has the confidence to easily pass Floor 2.
Afterward, he equipped the [Sword Bleak], storing the other common sword he bought from the NPC.
Since he still has not reached level 5, he can't possibly use double-handed sword ability. Only true swordsmen have this talent.
For now, he was only a novice swordsman. Upon reaching Level 5, He would have the last chance to change his class or choose to graduate from the novice category.
Of course, he would choose the latter.
He then refocused his mind ahead and decided to continue to roam in the dark forest hunting [Forest Gnolls] to complete the floor.
