Failed experimental subject?

[Margaret's POV]

The next day, as expected, I woke up late.

I touched the cool sheets beside me, resignedly got up quickly, and contacted Donald through the mind-link: "Donald? Where are you? Why didn't you wake me up? I woke up late, do you know that?"

Donald responded very quickly from his end, "I'm at Benjamin's place, come over after you've had breakfast."

As I got ready, I wondered, what could Donald be doing at Benjamin's, early in the morning? Could it be that Elliot's condition had worsened?

This thought weighed heavily on my mind, hastening my actions. I grabbed a sandwich and a bottle of milk from the table and rushed out the door.

The voice of the maid speaking was left behind. Who could afford a leisurely breakfast and then leave the house at such a time?

To my surprise, there was nothing unusual about Elliot's condition. Donald had rushed to the hospital early in the morning because Benjamin had made some new discoveries in his research.
