The old book

James hated his grandfather. His granddad is an eccentric, sometimes a fool. That's the impression most who got to know him felt. Thankfully his grandad liked to live alone, away from the family dramas.

Though he did felt guilty for not knowing him better when he passed away a few months ago. But the guilt vanished and he started to hate him again when James had been made to live in his granddad's home. The reason is: it is quiet nearer to the uni he will be going and his mother felt it is a waste to not use the house.

The first thing upon his arrival he did is curse his granddad. The place is littered with heaps and heaps of garbage, unknown object that will only grace in a horror movie and of course, dust.

It took nearly two and a half day to clean up the mess, even then he still had the basement which he made a point of avoiding until then. Whatever it is, his parents had restricted him from ever entering it during their earlier visits, though his grandad had quite often called him down there to play but he refused because of the ghost stories his mother cleverly installed in him about the basement.

Anyway he made to avoid the place altogether from childhood to now and he felt it could stay like that for a while more.

He had thrown the trash bag into the overflowing trash can in the street and returned. As he did so he could not help but feel a gaze on him turning over he meet with the face of a old woman, face inches apart from his.

"Hello" James greeted as he backed away.

"You are destined for great things Jay" the old hag with falling teeth uttered the words in a joyous tone.

"Sorry, you got the wrong person" he made to move but the old hag stopped in his way.

"you are destined for great things but... But you will never be able tell it to others" the old hag in sad tone.

"yeah, how lucky I'm?" James said mockingly taking a step aside and going past the old hag.

The hag watched him for a while even after he disappeared into the house and then vanished into thin air smiling.

James on the other hand none the wiser decide to clean up the basement. As he stepped into to the room, he grabbed his nose. There had been a bird in a cage down here, had been because it is now a rotting corpse. James placed his bet on being starved to death, a cruel way to go.

"what the hell old man what had you been up to here?"

The place is filled with skulls bones leather cloths red paints in the walls and grey candles half melted.

It had been a real pain in the ass for him to clean it all up, even though he had decide to throw all the things without checking.

It's three min to go for midnight when he finished, and he stood in the center of the basement surveying it in satisfactions. He made to move out but his legs are sticking with the floor not budging.

"what the hell?" James felt his heart beat faster and his spin tinkling.

He tried once more but this time he could move.

Jumping out of the place he fell on the floor fearing the floor will blast like a bomb

But it didn't, instead silence prevailed the place. James can swear that he felt something earlier curious he moved to the place where he stuck and knocked on the stone floor.

Dank Dank

Instead the floor sounded like a wooden desk, curious more and more he tried lifting the block of floor tile, which he could easily do so. The plank moved to reveal a small box shaped intention.

Inside laid a single black leather covered book with a leather strap for a lock. James lifted it up and noted it is smaller than most books coming to just 50 or so pages. And just a foot and half a foot in dimension.

He opened it to see the first page holding its title, "ouch" the paper had cut his finger. Not minding it that much he saw the first page as he sucked on his injured finger.

THE BOOK OF PREDICTIONS

The second page contained a list of sentence under the head Rules.

The third one is a blank golden paper. The remaining one are all blank white ones. With nothing to read he returned to the rules page.

1. THE BOOK OF PREDICTIONS, HEREON REFEREED TO AS THE BOOK, WILL BE BOUND TO THE USER ON THE FIRST CONTACT OF USER'S BLOOD.

2. The BOOK CAN ONLY BE ACCESSED BY THE USER, TO OTHERS IT WILL LOOK LIKE A SIMPLE BOOK.

3.THE BOOK CANNOT BE DESTROYED OR ALTERED.

4. THE BOOK CAN PREDICT RANDOM FUTURE EVENT.

5. THE BOOK CAN PREDICT WHEN THE BOOK IS OPENED WITH DESIRE FOR PREDICTION BY THE USER.

6. THE BOOK CAN BE OPENED ONLY WHEN THE SPINE OF THE BOOK TURN GOLDEN.

7. THE BOOK HOLDS THE RIGHT TO ALTER, ADD AND DELETE THE RULE AS IT SEE FIT.

James slowly closed the book and laid it away to throw later. "the old man is more eccentric then I thought" James muttered as he went to his business.
