Chapter 2: Escape

The figure turned its head towards me, but unlike humans, this creature turned its head a full 180 degrees. My mood almost instantly shifted to genuine horror.

Before I stood a ghostly, floating body. It had pale skin combined with terrifying features. It doesn't seem scary at first glance, but the more you look, the scarier it gets.

Her matted hair defies gravity itself and floats in the air, unlike anything I've ever seen. Her terrible face with sharp teeth draws attention almost immediately.

Without giving me time to react, this devil attacked me. With a quick sweep of her long nails, she pierced my stomach with them. Unable to understand what was happening, I tried to fight back on pure reflexes.

I tried to hit and kick, but all my efforts were completely useless. This creature looked almost invincible to anything I could put up with. All of my efforts were futile against her.

Making the only right choice, I tried to escape. I tried reaching the forest, maybe there I could survive. I could feel how strength was slowly leaving me.

But I had to at least try to make it. I run, run and run.

However, running away proved to be the wrong choice to face this creature, but did I have other options besides that? I almost made it to the forest, the finish line that I set in my thought.

With all my remaining strength, I forced my body for one last push, but just before I could cross this border, I stumbled upon a tree root.

In the process of falling to the ground, I turned my back on the ground to face the devil with my eyes.

Looking at the creature, which slowed its pace, it enjoyed the process of stalking its prey. Her entire demeanour screamed pleasure from my slow suffering, loss of hope, and acceptance of defeat.

The closer this devil got, the more difficult it became for me to keep my eyes open, to withstand the insane pressure. I couldn't take it, it was insanely hard. I had to close my eyes and try to forget the devil even for a second before I was gone once and for all.

With my eyes closed, I waited. I tried to come to terms with death, but death never came.

*Terrible scream*

Instead, I heard a loud female scream. I heard metal colliding with something else. I heard the fight going on right in front of me.

Trying to force my eyes to open, but it proved to be a difficult ordeal. What if it's all just part of my imagination? What if all these sounds I'm hearing are nothing, but my brain is just playing tricks on me?

I kept my eyes closed, not daring to open them, but the battle continued. From time to time I heard female screams, heard a metallic clang, and it seemed that it would not stop. The time has come when I had to open my eyes. There is no longer any reason to avoid it. I plucked up all the courage I could muster and snapped them open.

Right in front of me, I saw a man wrestling with the devil. A truly incredible sight. Something that could be someone's dream. A man with a sword was defeating someone I thought was invincible.

.

Something about it looked suspicious, the man was moving at an inhuman speed. Every blow that this creature tried to inflict on a person was deflected without much effort. There seemed to be nothing this man couldn't do. But this man is no less a monster. His eyes are inhuman, coloured yellow.

It got me thinking if it's not a human, but another devil in disguise, then why would one devil fight another?

It was a battle between monsters. The man twirls his sword around like a child's toy that can't hurt. Virtually effortless, without even sweating. With powerful swings of the sword, he repels and forces the devil to retreat.

Every attempt to attack was parried or dodged. It looked like the man was bullying a small child rather than fighting a terrible and powerful monster.

If I could imagine, it takes decades of practice to become such a master swordsman, but he didn't look that old. He looked more mature than old. How can a person reach such heights at such a young age?

His sword had a dance feel rather than a fighting style. None of his attacks goes to waste, they are all accurate and deadly. Watching this fight turned out to be a breathtaking sight.

Using extremely fast strikes that simply couldn't be dodged. Parrying and dodging the blows of the monster's long claws.

The battle continued, with a badly wounded monster against a man with a long sword and catlike pupils. He parried and cut, parried and cut. The monster was cornered, from which he had no way out.

Suddenly, the monster delivered a quick blow that the man simply could not dodge or parry, but he made a hand sign from which a barrier appeared. An almost invisible barrier appeared that completely blocked the monster's attack.

Having formed another hand sign, the monster was pushed away by an invisible force, causing the monster to fall like a bag of earth.

With a quick dash, the man approached the monster faster than I could imagine. It was so fast that my eyes couldn't keep up with the man. With a quick, piercing blow in the head, he killed her.

To my surprise, the monster's body didn't just fall, but disappeared, dissolving as if it wasn't even there. The man looked at the monster and said, "Damn, NightWraith, how did it get here? Oh wait, she was chasing the kid," turning his scary face to me, he said, "Oh, here you are! "

Coming closer to me, he asked suspiciously, "How the hell did you end up here?"

But looking at me more closely, his face expressed mild surprise. He asked, "Are you hurt?"

I quickly nodded my head and asked, "You won't kill or eat me, right?"

It was scary. I didn't want to make him wait for my answers, seeing the strength with which he fought the monster. All I could do was be honest and fast to reply.

But I could no longer hold on. The last strength that helped me hold on left me. The eyes were getting heavier, and every breath brought a wave of pain throughout the body.

Before my eyes closed and my brain completely shut down, I heard.

The man said, "I'm surprised you survived this encounter with the Nightwraith", but I didn't listen to him anymore. All I had the strength to do was say my last word: "Thank you". "
