Dirty secrets

Of course, it would be too easy if you could kill a vampire by just slapping its face and pressing it to the floor as Kristof did, but we didn't need to kill it. We need to get as many answers as possible to catch more rats and finally get rid of that police case and the police itself. No, we wouldn't destroy the police or kill it, as they planned to do this with the mafia. We'll only show them their place and put in charge someone who'd be capable of playing on both sides without harming one of them.

"Let us girls have a talk," Mallory and I said at the same time, as we looked at each other. We said that without any previous agreement, but it sounded like we did.

Kristof only looked at us, nodded his head, and went closer to Markus, while Mallory and I went in the direction of those girls tied on the floor. I squatted near that one who hissed at me, put the skirt of my dress between my legs as the hems on both sides of the dress allowed it, and squeezed the black hair of that girl in my hand. She opened her eyes and hissed at me again, but I squeezed her hair and pressed her to the floor. Mallory on the contrary stepped on her chest and pressed her to the ground with her stiletto.

"So, you were working for the police before they planned that case to kill me, right?" I asked, but the girl only hissed in my direction.

"I won't talk with you mafia b*tch!"

"Don't play dumb," Mallory squatted down as well and pressed a small silver dagger to the neck of the girl, "It won't make any harm to you, but will slightly burn your precious skin and bring some pain. Don't tell me you like pain…"

"Were you working in the Bloody Brothel?" we heard Markus's voice sounding somewhere from the darkness of the room. Probably they hid with Kristof in the darkness for us to feel alone, but seeing we can't succeed decided to help. Or, Markus just caught some thought.

"I was," the girl suddenly said, and I let go of her hair, then looked in the darkness.

"The same where they held me?"

"It's not the only one bloody brothel," Markus answered still being hidden in the darkness, to make the girl guess who she was talking to, as she hasn't seen him previously. When we entered the room, he was behind me in the darkness, and the girl was too busy staring at me with her bloody eyes, probably imagining how she would kill me if she could.

"Who are you?" the girl asked, then looked at me as I squeezed her hair and pressed her again to the floor.

"The one you'll never know, as you don't want to tell us anything! Mallory, she's useless," I looked at the tall girl with platinum hair who started to draw a thin line with her dagger on the girl's neck when she exclaimed.

"I'll tell you everything! Just… just tell me who he is!" she pleased us as if knowing with whom she was talking was the most important thing in her life. I told Mallory to stop and looked at the darkness, where, to my own amusement, I could easily find Markus.

As if catching my silent please, he stepped out of the darkness with his hands in his pockets. Markus was a tall, handsome vampire with platinum hair, onyx eyes, pale skin, and thin but well-shaped body. He was dressed in a black rich mate woolen suit and black shirt with a black tie. He came closer to us and stood right behind my back, so I looked down at the girl instead of staring at him. I heard him squatted down near me and kissed my neck from the left side as if he was demonstrating something to the girl whom I was holding.

And he made an impression on her probably no one ever made on her. She was looking at him like he was some kind of God for her. Her red pupils were wider than before, her mouth slightly opened. Her voice was low when she was whispering.

"Markus Malone…" fell out of her mouth, and she made an unnecessary gulp, probably of her own drool.

"And who are you?" he asked on the contrary, but his eyes were focused on me. I could see with the back of my sharp eye that he was looking at my neck and a pulsating vein under my skin instead of that girl. He wasn't interested in her at all, but I can't say the same about her.

"Jane Walker," she answered quickly, as if her name could make some impression on Markus. But it didn't. He leaned his head down and kissed my neck again, and then he wrapped his hands around my waist.

"So, what do you have against my wife?" he suddenly asked, and his eyes quickly moved from me to the girl. I turn my head slightly to see his eyes burning orange. He was staring at my neck and hugged me to take his fire into control!

"W…wife?" the girl asked, and her eyes moved from Markus to me, then to the pendant hanging on my neck. It was slightly moving as my body was bent down. For a long few minutes, the girl was silent. Then her lips started quickly moving, as if she caught the dangerous aura coming from Markus.

"I was in the bloody brothel, but the one police had. All the so-called victims were from the same brothel. Police have some vampires among their ranks too, and those vampires liked to have s*x and drink blood from girls like us. They accidentally turned us one night, but they couldn't let the mafia know it, so they hid us," the girl stopped talking as if recoiling some memories in her head. I looked at Markus.

"Did you know they had vampires among their ranks?" I asked, and he nodded without looking at me.

"Vampires are everywhere. No wonder," he responded to me, and then his eyes moved to the other five girls that were either sleeping or pretending they were unconscious, "Did you all know why police asked you to play dead victims?"

Suddenly, after hearing the question, all the other five girls put their heads up and nodded all at once. One of them, the girl with curly blond hair and dark hazel eyes, looked at Markus and her lips started moving quickly.

"They told us one of their officers was working for the mafia, and they needed to take her off without the mafia understanding it. They asked us to play victims of the so-called maniac, and when our work was done they asked us to work undercover in the mafia bloody banks, just spying for them. They promised to set us free after we'll do our work," she said, then looked at the girl whom I was holding by the hair, "Why do I feel we were fooled?"

"You were," I finally said and closed my eyes for a second, then opened, and continued, "I was never working on mafia before I met Markus a… month ago?"

He nodded at my words, and I continued.

"One night I heard accidentally police bosses complaining that mafia with their protection system is getting to a higher place in people's minds as they, the police, were. I heard those making plans for throwing some rants in mafia ranks to destroy their main source of food – blood. When they understood I heard them, they kicked the back of my head, saying I was attacked in the street. While I was weak from the injury, they used hypnosis on me to delete my memories of what I had heard."

I stopped and take a breath in and out, filling my lungs with air. Markus pressed me to his body and continued.

"They decided to kill her, using you for her to not spoil their plans. However, how could she, as she didn't know the mafia then and wasn't able to remember any single word about their plan?" Markus suddenly stood up and looked at me, holding his hand in my direction. I let go of the girl's hair, took his hand, and stood up.

"How many there are of you?" Markus asked, hugging me and pressing my body towards his. Both girls who were talking to us sat as much as their tied legs and arms allowed them, and exchanged views.

"Do you understand, we were used to killing an innocent girl?" the one with the blond hair whispered.

"They will kill us too," the girls with the black hair whispered, and I looked at Markus.

"The kids! Where did the police took those kids?" I exclaimed, but before Markus could say a word, one of the girls from those who remained silent started talking.

"Those six kids they used in the fake case against you were… the kids of other girls, who were turned into vampires just like us, in the bloody brothel. The police killed those kids to not explaining anything to the mafia who controls every new vampire!"

I felt something hurt my stomach from the inside and the world started spinning around me. I felt I'm losing balance and slipping down against Markus's body.

"Aurora!" He quickly caught me up and pressed me to himself, then slapped my cheeks slightly to bring me back to reality. I could see his face and hands, but I could barely control my own body.

"C`mon girl," Markus suddenly said, then I felt something falling to my lips. It was something that smelled like blood, very tasty, vampire blood. It was his blood. I can easily differentiate that musky smell, so I licked the blood from my lips, feeling much better than before. Then, I heard Markus's voice near my ear, "Bite me. You're hungry."

I clung to him, squeezed his jacket in my arms, and felt him press my head to his neck, helping me. I burst my fangs into his neck, hearing him moan in my ear. While making greedy gulps, I was clinging to Markus more and more.

My body began to absorb his blood, I could feel my legs and hands again, and soon I took my fangs out of his neck, taking a deep breath and licking my lips. The bite mark on his neck started to heal quickly, and I just hugged him.

The only question in my head was, "What suddenly made me so hungry? And why did I become so weak when they mentioned that the police killed innocent kids???"
