Elena came down from the car and slowly walked to the apartment, Jorge's words kept replaying in her head. She needed to get this right if she wanted to see her sister alive. These people sounded dangerous and she needed to get away from them, as fast as possible.
When she got to the door of the apartment, she looked around to make sure she wasn't being watched, before trying to open the door, it was locked. She fished out a bobby pin from her hair and discreetly picked the lock with it, her older brother had taught her this when she was a teenager. The door opened and she went inside, closing the door behind her.
She looked around the living room wondering where she was going to start from in searching for the flash drive. She searched the TV shelf, bookshelf, and under the chairs but she couldn't find any flash drive, so she decided to go to the bedroom, she searched the nightstand, making sure to leave things the same way she had met them. She searched the bed, underneath it, and everywhere in the bedroom, but she couldn't find it either.
"Where the hell is it?" She asked as she stood in the bedroom wondering where else to search for it. She went to the bathroom and searched all the cabinets there, but it wasn't there either.
The only place left that she was yet to search, was the kitchen, she went there. She ransacked the cabinets and everywhere in the kitchen but the flash drive wasn't there.
Elena stood in the kitchen, thinking of where else to look. What if the flash drive wasn't in the house? Probably Peter hid it somewhere else, but Lorenzo was sure it was in the house. She hissed in annoyance as she started searching again, if they were so sure that it was here, why didn't they just come to look for it themselves? "Because you're being punished for using him to lie," a voice in Elena's head said.
Elena went back to the living room and started to carefully search through the books that were on the shelf. And then She found a book that was hidden behind the rest of the other books, she opened it and found a flash drive.
"Got ya!" Elena said in triumph. She placed the flash drive inside of her bra. And started to place the books back the way she had found them. And that was when she started hearing voices outside the front door.
She peered out through the window and saw a police van parked outside. Shoot! She needed to leave there, as quickly as possible. No one told her about the police coming there. She ran to the bedroom and decided to climb out through the window, the police van was parked in front, and if she was discreet enough, they won't notice her.
Elena held her breath as she quietly climbed out the window, when she jumped down, she hid in a corner of the building, watching the policemen as they all went inside the apartment before she started walking towards the car Jorge had parked two blocks away.
"Hey you, stop there!" Elena heard a voice from behind her and she immediately froze in her tracks. She thought of running, but that would make her seem suspicious.
"Calm down Elena, just act normal," she slowly turned around to face the police officer who was walking toward her. She gave him her signature smile which always melted hearts.
"Hello officer, how may I help?" She asked in a Russian accent. She always used that to disguise her real voice.
"Hello, ma'am, do you live in this neighborhood?" The police officer asked Elena, returning her smile.
"Oh no, I don't. I only came to see my boyfriend," she made a sad face, "well, actually my ex now, because I caught the bastard cheating on me," Elena said the last part in a pathetic tone, which generated a look of pity from the officer.
"I'm sorry to hear that," the officer said. And then he looked suspiciously at the gloves that she was putting on, probably wondering why she would be putting on gloves on a hot sunny day. Elena's eyes followed his, and she said, "I'm germaphobic," explaining the reason for the gloves.
"Oh, I see. All right, do have a nice day Miss," the officer said.
"Thank you, officer," Elena said with a smile before she turned around and started walking away.
Jorge was seated in the car watching as Elena talked to the police officer.
"What the fuck is she doing?" Jorge asked in confusion as he could see Elena smiling at the police officer. Was she trying to get them into trouble? He told Lorenzo giving this girl the task was a bad idea, now she was reporting them to the police.
"You're a dead meat girl," Jorge said as he turned on the engine of the car and was about to drive away from there, and then he saw Elena turn around and started walking in his direction.
When Elena got to the car, she quickly opened the passenger's side and got in. "Drive!" She said in a grave voice.
"Did you get the flash drive?" Jorge asked as he drove.
"Yes," Elena replied.
"What were you discussing with the police?"
"If you are asking to find out if I reported you and your Boss to the police, the answer is no! He was only asking me if I lived in the neighborhood," Elena replied with anger in her voice. She almost got caught by the police all because of them and he has the nerve to suspect her of selling them out.
"Can I have the flash drive?" Jorge asked, stretching out his hand.
"No, I will hand it over to your boss, myself!"
"Give me the..."
"I would suggest you drove faster if you don't want us spending the day in jail," Elena said, as she looked through the side mirror and saw a police van coming after them.
"Fuck!" Jorge cussed hitting the steering in anger as he increased the speed of the car.
