A Simple Connection

Seeing that simple smile on her face, Jon didn't say anything to her.

"Well, you can always crash here if you need a place to stay," Jon offered to her graciously.

She thought for a moment with her eyes looking upon the city streets in the distance.

Thinking things through in her mind, "You know, I don't want to end things like that between her. I owe her an apology."

She smiles with a pair of eyes that seem to contain a clear understanding and confidence that wasn't there before.

Jon understands her intention and thinks that it is a good idea to correct the mistake, causing a gap in a meaningful friendship.

Often, such a small mistake creates a widening gap between two people, a slight misunderstanding that wasn't corrected before.

Hearing her decision, Jon gives his full support, reflecting on his relationships that slowly disappeared over the years.

Remembering the faces of friends he once knew in his original life, wondering if it was destiny or karma that some people slowly fall away into the background after losing contact.

Coming into the contact of adulthood, he finds himself occupied with his daily tasks and finding lacking in the effort to stay in connection with the friends he once knew so closely.

Looking up at her face after his deep introspection, Jon sees that she is silently observing the buildings in the distance, people in their own lives and doing whatever they might be doing with family or alone.

With the chill of the warm wind blowing her hair up in the sky, revealing the side of her face clearly to him sitting next to her.

"At least stay for the night," he insisted upon her without giving her the chance to object, "you stay here. I'll get us some food."

Jon already got up from his seat and rushed away without a chance for her to say anything else, leaving her smiling to herself.

She watches as he walks away into the kitchen; there's something mysterious about him, the way he appeared out of nowhere and entered her life.

As he filled up two cups with some drinks for the both of them, he noticed her watching him, and he smiled at her gently before continuing his focus on filling her cup with the fruit drink.

Something captivating about him, the way he treats her is different from how the guys she has met in the past are, especially the clarity in his eyes without any other hidden intentions.

In a second, she watches as he brings two trays of food into a dish in front of her, "Here, hold this. This dish is for you."

The dish that Jon handed is a dish of penne with tomato sauce; from even the fragrance of the food, she knows it is probably quite delicious.

Grabbing the fork on the side, she starts to taste the food; Jon watches with a joyous smile seeing how she is enjoying the tasty penne pasta with delight.

She exclaims with delight upon devouring the food, "This is super tasty!"

"Maybe it is because you have eaten in a day," Jon commented, seeing the happy site of her eating the food. "Don't worry. I still got more if you want some."

Jon smiles as he watches her finally slowing down the fast speed of devouring the large plate of food.

Using a napkin, he wiped the tomato sauce gently from the corner of her mouth.

Handing her the glass of fruit juice that he poured for her, "Here, drink some water."

"Where did you get this food delivery? I didn't know this city had such a fine restaurant now," she asked with curiosity drinking a sip of the fruit juice.

"What food delivery?" Jon laughed to himself, hearing that she thought he got this from food delivery, "I made it myself, madam."

Technically, he got the material from the system's storage, but the food he made himself followed simple instructions from a recipe he found online.

It is easier to make food and to fail countless times when there's an infinite supply of cooking materials handy and available.

Finishing up the last bit of the food on the plate, she put the plate down on the table by their side.

"Nice, that makes it quite tempting for me to stay here, so I get to taste free food every day," she joked with him. As though she suddenly remembered something on top of her head, "Oh, I still haven't introduced myself. I'm --"

"Samantha," Jon interrupted her midway. Giving a simple smile, "I know. You had your name along with the tag on the instrument case. I'm Jon, by the way."

He extends his hand out in a simple gesture of introduction, "Nice to meet you, Samantha. My pleasure."

It is strange sometimes to her how one bizarre accident could lead to meeting someone that might change the course of your life.

This honesty in his eyes, brimming with truthfulness and a mystery to him simultaneously, a puzzle that has happened.

Containing in his voice is this absolute certainty like he knows full well the steps that might be lying in front of them, as though she could entrust a little more to him.

Magically, during their first proper meeting, she extends her hand out to him with a small smile on her lips.

The silence of the night in the background except for the warm current of the wind carrying forth into the balcony.

He is a stranger to her, someone unknown, but this first day she will one day keep in her heart as an actual unmistakable memory.

Clearing up the plates on the table, Jon said to her, "Alright, it is getting late. You have still not fully recovered."

With his hand, he helped support her up from the chair, and even though she insisted on walking back to the bed by herself, Jon still insisted on letting him help her.

Samantha felt the large hand touching her forehead as Jon tries to see if her fever is subsiding or not.

With the blanket covered over her body, she shyly said to him, "You know I'm not a kid; I am really fine."

Joking with her, "No, you're not; you are eyes already so droopy they are like half-shut curtains. Now go to sleep."

She couldn't find the energy to rebuttal him anymore as her tired eyes closed shut into the deepest sleep.

Seeing that she had fallen asleep, Jon smiled warmly as he closed the light from the night lamp, "Goodnight."
