Chapter 41

The evening had been long, and the boys had pushed their limit. Eventually though Jenny chased them back to bed. When they left Mathew and I were alone. But it didn't last long as a few members of the pack came to introduce themselves. Some just outrightly offered a hand while others did so under the pretense of asking Mathew various questions. Each handshake lasted for at least ten seconds, and I had shaken so many hands I felt like I was royalty.

Outside the night was warm but the definite chill of autumn was creeping in. From all around the smell of wood fires filled the night and a hush began to gather beneath the trees.

I sat on the back of Molly outside the Red Spring cabins. There was a few that had lights on but most were dark. I drove up the little road to the end where I found number eight. It was the last in the row and had the best view over the mountain lake. It reminded me of the place Jenny's family use to take us for training.

With a slow roll I entered the little garage and parked Molly then quickly wiped down the fenders and tank. I turned to the side door and entered into an open space living area. I now stood on the kitchen side of the room. It was compact but well-spaced with everything I could want, and all the counter tops and the island were made of white marble. The floor in the kitchen was also made from stone and a large set of sliding doors opened out onto a deck.

The rest of the space had hardwood floors and was set up as a luxurious living room with a stone fireplace. This little cabin was definitely built for modern comfort. I walked further inside and found that Dean had been here as his sent was still in the air and my rucksack was on the kitchen island next to the bag of snacks I had bought. His sent seemed to linger around the fridge and I pulled it open to see that it had been fully stocked and a slab of beer and one of Cola filled the lowest shelf to one side.

I grinned and closed the door as I resumed my search of the cabin. In total I found three bathrooms. One downstairs and two upstairs. Three bedrooms and a study nook that overlooked the deck at the back of the cabin. I stretched then froze and looked out to the deck again.

'A hot tub?' I ran downstairs and pulled the sliding doors wide. Yes, I hadn't imagined it. There was a large hot tub on my deck that could hold at least ten people. I grinned and placed a hand into the water and sighed. It was already warm and running smoothly. I looked around and listened. The closest people I could hear were two cabins down. I ran back into the kitchen and grabbed a few beers from the fridge and a towel from the bathroom before running back to the tub. With a flash of fabric I pulled off the dress Jenny had given me and tossed it and my bra onto the sunchairs as I jumped into the hot tub. The water felt heavenly as I lay back and rested my head against the pillowed edge. With a slow flick of my wrist, I pushed the button and the bubbles started.

I grinned and popped open my first beer then placed the others into the drinks bucket at the side of the machine.

"Heaven…" I looked up at the stars and grinned. The night sky away from the city was amazingly bright. In the city it looked like an orange haze but out here where there was little light pollution, I could see the actual stars.

I looked up as a sound caught my attention and a large wolf came running through the woods. With a leap it bounded onto the deck then up to the side of the tub. I looked over the edge as Dean stood up and transformed.

"Shit, I thought they were never letting me go." I smirked.

"Why?" He waved a hand.

"May I join you?" I nodded and he pulled a chair up to the side of the tub. "I'm not allowed to get my silver burn wet… unless it's a quick shower." He relaxed and I could feel him playing with my hair as it hung over the edge of the hot tub wall. "Everyone just had a lot of questions about you." I offered him a beer and he took it and cracked it open.

"What did they want to know?" He took a mouthful of his beer and gave a little shrug.

"How old you are, do you have a mate, are you seeing anyone…" He smirked. "That sort of thing.' I sighed.

"You lot sure are fixated on finding a mate…" He sighed and looked up at the stars.

It was getting so late it was early and I was ready to go to bed when Dean kissed me. He sighed and took a few steps back towards the forest he had come through.

"I have to go patrol now, but I will be free all afternoon if you need me." I nodded and waved goodbye as he transformed and left. Slowly I went inside and had a quick shower before heading upstairs and into the master bedroom at the end of the hall. I jumped onto the large king-sized bed and snuggled down into the comfortable softness.

Morning came and I awoke to the sound of my Phone ringing. I pulled it from the charger and looked at the name.

"Morning Rodger, how's life treating you?" I heard him chuckle.

"Morning? More like afternoon." I glanced at my watch and nodded. It was indeed past twelve and I had slept soundly as soon as my head had touched the fluffy pillows. "Anyway, I was going to ask your opinion on the match? You know fighting the Bulldog." I nodded.

"Yeah, do you really think I should be in the red section?" I heard him chuckle.

"Definitely. You hold a hell of a lot of potential and when you max out you could take on even the Soul Sucker." I shuddered.

"Can we please use Enoch? Soul Sucker gives me the chills." He chuckled.

"If you feel better about that." I nodded and stretched.

"Yes I do." I heard Rodger sigh.

"Someone keep you up last night?" I grinned.

"Nope, I have a hot tub on the deck of the cabin I'm staying in." I heard him laugh.

"If all it took was a hot tub to impress you, I'd have invited you to my place. I have one with a very nice whirlpool effect and even a rain maker." I nodded.

"I'm almost tempted." I pulled myself out of bed and wandered into the ensuite bathroom. "So, what do you want to know about the fight?" He huffed.

"Will you do it or not?" I looked in the mirror and jumped seeing the makeup I had forgotten to take off smudged all over my face.

"You know what… Fuck it. Yes. I was already told that the Banshee isn't scared of anyone." I heard him laughing on the other end of the line.

"Who told you that?" I wiped at my face with a damp cloth.

"The alpha's son's… I'll also need some tickets for the match so make sure it's not on a school night." He burst out laughing again.

"Yeah sure… although I can easily have them up here on the balcony to watch. That way the kids will get an uninterrupted view and there'll be no chance of an elbow to the head." I nodded.

"Well, there will be at least seven or eight of them." I went through the list that included the two boys their dad, Mathew the two warriors and Dean. He snorted at the last name.

"Yeah, sure I can do that. So, on a Friday night with eight guests to see the show. Do any of them, apart from Dean, know you're the Banshee?" I turned the shower on.

"Nope and I'd like to keep it that way. I got to go. You know get ready for whatever the day has left in store."

"Yeah, no problem but… Just my terrible fatherly instincts kicking in here… If the kids said the Banshee isn't scared of anyone or anything I would check to see if something is frightening them. Just a hunch kids, like women, don't always tell you directly what they think, you have to be good at reading in between the lines." I nodded and thought for a moment.

"Yeah sure. I'll check that out… Its Saturday today right?" He laughed.

"Yes. Get your shower and have fun. Swing by the office soon though. I need you for some paperwork." We said our goodbyes and hung up. I tossed the phone into a pile of towels and stepped into the large cubical and grinned as I began to scrub the make-up away.
