"Hi, so you're Danica." Lisa held out a hand and I shook it. "I've heard so much about you from some of the pack. Thank you so much for saving the boys. I don't know what I would've done if something bad had happened to them that day." She wiped a tear from her eye careful not to smudge her makeup.
"I'm sure anyone else would have done the same." She nodded and gave me a look over.
"I've seen you around the plaza before. You know Rodger." I nodded but alarm bells were triggered. I made no secret that I knew Rodger, a lot of people do, but it seemed odd that she would bring it up. Especially since most people who had anything to do with the plaza, or Rodger, had an unwritten law not to discuss matters outside the ring territory. The fact that she stated I 'know' Rodger instead of asking if I did also told me that she knew something about my movements.
"Yeah, I work as an accountant." She looked at me and shifted slightly. "I know, boring right, but someone has to keep their eye on the spending. That man is frivolous when it comes to all the shiny things." She nodded and glanced at Lilly as she began to cry and snuggle into Deans neck.
"I'll go over there..." He muttered and left. Lisa sneered as they left and shook her head.
"No respect for their betters..." With a sigh she looked to the table. "Do you have anything other than keg beer?" I blinked at her blunt words then thought for a moment and nodded.
"I have some cans and a bottle or two of sherry hidden in a cupboard. How's that sound?" She shrugged.
"Never drank it before…" She moved uncomfortably then looked around. "Excuse me." She turned away and went to the bathroom. my mind raced
'Betters? What the fuck!' i thought as I rubbed my face.
"Did these old ears hear there was a bottle or two of sherry?" I looked around then down as the former Luna rolled over to me.
"Yes, Luna. Would you like a glass?" She smiled.
"Just Alice is fine my dear." I went to the cupboard and pulled out three glasses then sneaked out the first sherry bottle and filled the glasses halfway.
Lisa came back as I was handing a glass to Alice. I handed her the second glass, and she sniffed the liquid before putting it to her lips and sipping. Slowly she nodded as I brought my glass around.
"This isn't all that bad." She took another sip as she looked from me to Alice and back. She turned her back to Alice as I gritted my teeth slightly. "I didn't think you'd have taste since your clothes are so bland." She wiggled a finger at me. and I looked down and shrugged. I was wearing comfortable jean shorts to the knees and a t-shirt that slipped off one shoulder.
"I didn't have much time to pack. I kinda came out here last minute." She gave me a sympathetic look.
"Is that why you have no makeup on?" I nodded.
"Everything was left behind in a hurry." I blamed everything on being pulled away without warning. We began to talk about fashion, popular rap music and celebrity life. Not my strongest points but I had read enough of Jenny's magazines to fumble my way through a conversation. Mostly though I fell back on the never fail line and its variations.
"Oh, that's interesting tell me more." And she fell for it hook line and sinker. Occasionally I would throw in a witty remark or regurgitate what she had told me earlier and she seemed to react well. But something felt wrong, the conversation somehow kept going back to me and my relationship with Rodger and the Phantom plaza. Even Alice who had remained quiet contently sipping on her sherry seemed annoyed. I tossed out a random fact that I knew was complete bull about fashion but she agreed.
"So how did you meet Rodger?" I shrugged as she asked for the third time.
"Uni student looking for a job. A nurse told me about an opportunity to do some accounting both on record and off." I winked. "And I said yes. Turns out it was his daughter… I believe she works the ring. I don't pay much attention to the fights or fighters. Anyway, one thing led to another and I've been working there a year now." She nodded but didn't seem convinced.
"Is that all?" I shrugged.
"Well, I do fuck him occasionally." She laughed and slapped my shoulder.
"He does have a nice but." I felt a little force behind her hand and allowed myself to stumble over.
"Oh, shoot sorry I forgot you're a half breed. I didn't hurt you did I?" I shook my head.
"No harm no fowl." She nodded and her eyes seemed distant. I caught the smirk on Alice's face as she gave me a knowing stare.
Suddenly out of nowhere the electronic intro from the ride of the Valkyries began to play. She hurriedly changed the music on her phone but she had let it play long enough for everyone to recognize it and my eyes went to the little charm dancing from her phone. It was a fighters entry token issued this year. I had my token on my keys. It was from an older batch but still had the distinctive shape all tokens had. I saw the last three digits of the serial number and made a note to ask Rodger about it later.
She shot me a bashful look then frowned as her phone rang. She held up one perfectly manicured finger to me and stepped away slightly.
"Uh one moment." She answered her phone and nodded as she spoke quietly on the other end of the phone walking away just enough I couldn't hear who she was talking too. "Yes, they're ok." She gave me an annoyed look and pointed to the phone. "Of course, Kaden and Aden are resourceful. There wasn't a scratch on them." She smirked.
I felt something was not right as she continued about Kaden and Aden. I had not seen them since she arrived and to be honest it looked like they were avoiding her.
"Suspicious..." I head a mutter.
"Very..." I said before stopping myself. I glanced down at Alice and she smiled at me with a knowing look. She staired over me again.
Lisa rolled her head and my attention returned to her as she seemed exasperated and annoyed.
"No, we're at a party to celebrate a new member, Danica." She nodded and I watched as she grinned. "Yeah, I think they'll be a good match." She twirled her hair around in her fingertips and grinned. Her grin faded. "Yes Alpha." She hung up. "Got to go. My grandfather needs me back for pack business. But I'll bring my brother with me next time. You two should totally hook up." I nodded and watched her stagger slightly as she walked up to Derick as he held Maggy and landed a heavy kiss on his lips.
Alice growled slightly and wheeled closer as she watched the display. She shook her head and I filled her glass again as Dean walked over Lilly sleeping in his arms. He looked to me then to Lisa then back to Alice.
"Greetings Luna Alice." She waved his greetings away then looked to him and me.
"Lilly seems to like you… would you consider being her babysitter a few days a week." He blushed and scratched at his hair.
"Oh… um… My sister has recently had her second child… so I have a little practice with them. But I don't know if I should be left alone with them." She nodded and wheeled back slightly.
"You have met Mathew right? Do you know some of the things he has done?" I chuckled and shook my head fully believing that Mathew would be a grater danger to the kids than Dean. "Anyway think it over. I'll make sure you get well paid." She turned her attention to her drink as Dean cleared his throat then looked at me.
"Are you a witch?" I frowned.
"Why?" He shrugged.
"Didn't know you could speak Bimbo… Or attract them." I nodded.
"I attracted you didn't I?" I gave him a wink and he pouted as Alice chuckled at him.
"I'm no bimbo." I nodded.
"I know. Neither is she, she's a player. And she has a phantom's fighter's token on her phone." He gave me a weird look.
"You mean she actually fights at the Plaza?" He whispered and I nodded, then saw the look Alice was giving me as she leaned in closer.
"Yeah, however, it's a new one. She's only been fighting this year." Alice nodded and seemed to turn in on her thoughts.
I looked at Lilly as she grumbled in her sleep and pointed to the stares.
"It's getting late. I'll go and get Maggy and they can take a nap in my bedroom upstairs." looking around I saw Derick was still holding Maggy while Lisa fawned over him.
With a sigh I approached Derick. Lisa pouted as she glared at me. I held out my arms and pointed to Maggy.
"Don't mind me. I'll take Maggy upstairs so she can sleep." I saw the look on his face. "Relax, Lilly has fallen asleep already and I thought you two would like a little more time before…"
"Thanks Doll," Lisa interrupted as she brightened up and moved to allow me to take Maggy. Derick leant forward hesitantly.
Suddenly he shuddered then froze as our hands touched. I lifted the little girl up and turned away leaving him with a confused look on his face as Lisa slid into his lap.
"Who's a good baby? Stinky baby…" I almost gagged as the two of us walked up the stairs and into my bedroom. Dean looked up as he placed Lilly down on the bed then covered his nose.
"What the fuck is that?" I ran into the bathroom holding Maggy at arm's length.
"Don't know but a demon has possessed this bottom." I placed her to the sink then grabbed a towel and lay her onto it. Quickly I opened the seven-month-old's onesie and pulled the diaper wide. What I saw almost made me faint. I heard retching behind me and pointed. "Use the fucking toilet!" I whisper shouted at him then looked back. It was a massacre in brown. With a deep breath I grabbed a cloth then tossed it away. "Fuck this needs drastic action." I took her clothes off and filled the sink with warm water.
"Do you need help?" Dean offered but his face was white.
"Just get the diaper bag up here." He nodded and almost bolted out the room. I went back to washing the muck off the little girl and frowned. She seemed rather unresponsive. I tapped her little feet and they sluggishly moved. Dean came into the room and held up the bag as I finished washing her.
"I have this and her formula…" He tripped coming around the door and dropped the tub to the ground. To my horror white powder went everywhere. He winced and looked up at me. "Oops…"
"How fast can you run to the pack house and get a new one?" He smirked.
"By the time you have finished drying and clothing her I should be back." I nodded and he ran from the room. With a sigh I looked back to the little girl and sighed.
"This is some party…"
