The match between the Siren and the Vampire was in its ninth bell. The croued seemed to be growing impatient too as a murmur of disappointment swept through the stands. An announcement was made over the system that the match would be called off if no one won this round.
Enoch rubbed his hands excitedly and gazed out. But his excitement did not last long as a look of annoyance crossed his face and he nodded sadly.
"Now they're sort of fighting." He looked to me and sighed. With a twist I crawled to his side and looked out. The 'fight' seemed very one sided as the Siren began to dominate the ring. To the untrained eye it could almost look like the Banshee was fighting.
"Its like the vampire just gave up…" he nodded.
"It's been staged from beginning to end. The Siren hasn't lost a match yet and every time she fights her style gets closer to imitating the Banshee." I nodded and heard a boo from the crowd as the Siren was announced the winner. He shook his head. "I want to see her fight a real opponent…" He gave me a look. "Like you." I smirked and nodded.
"Don't think that'll happen anytime soon. But if it does you have the best seat in the house." He nodded and picked up his phone as it rang.
"Is the Banshee ready?" Enoch looked at me.
"Just needs her mask on."
"Good, bring her down to the waiting area and stay with her. I'm on my way." Enoch nodded and hung up.
"You heard?" I nodded. "Let's go. There are two matches and you're up. These one's shouldn't take too long…" He shrugged. "Shouldn't." I slipped my mask on and let him put the silk around me again. I slid through the air vent for a while and I couldn't help but feel like a sack of potatoes as Enoch maneuvered through the cramped space. We slipped into the waiting room in Rodger's territory and Enoch looked around. Once he was sure it was safe he removed the silk then sat on the sofa. I began to stretch and warming up for my fight.
Rodger entered and grinned as he rubbed his hands together. He gave Enoch a nod then looked to me as I stood ready for the fight.
"You're up next. How're you feeling?" I stretched and nodded.
"As good as I can be and rather pissed at the Siren." He nodded.
"Understandable, now remember. A muzzled wolf is a useless wolf. If he shifts just close those jaws and…" I could tell Rodger was beginning to panic and second guess himself. I placed a hand over his mouth.
"Shut up already. You prepared me as well as I could possibly be." He smirked.
"Kiss for luck?" I rolled my eyes and gave him a peak on the cheek.
"When do I head out?" He held up his walkie talkie.
"As soon as they say…" The walkie talkie burst into life.
"Rodger your up. Get your fighter to the ring." He smirked.
"Now." I nodded and walked out of the spacious room heading to the ring as Enoch and Rodger followed close behind. As I rounded the last corner I frowned as Oscar stood in a borrowed suit with a crisp white shirt looking around like he owned the place.
"What're you doing?" He grinned.
"Serving drinks." I shook my head. "Rodger asked me to work security tonight. I'm also backup if something were to go down." I frowned.
"What?" I looked to Rodger and he shrugged.
"I've a gut feeling something isn't right tonight." I nodded and heard the Bulldogs theme play, a song called 'Bullets' by Creed. I waited until Rodger nodded, and wave me forward. I stepped out and the hush fell. My eyes darted up to the balcony and I could see the twins jumping around. I took my breath and let lose my scream. The croued went nuts. I took a few steps then froze as 'The one and only' by Chesney Hawkes blasted on the speaker. I heard the line 'call my name' and the crowd screamed.
"BANSHEE!!" I hung my head as I approached the ring. The Bulldog stood there a grin on his face.
"Way to stick it to her." He bellowed and a hearty laugh filled the ring around me. I stared with a silly grin on my face, his aura was impressive. It enveloped me in waves and his laugh actually felt like someone was patting my body.
"Thank Rodger." He nodded.
"He's good at getting under your skin." I watched as the Bulldog sniffed then frowned and his eyes narrowed. "You always wear a scent blocker… Why?" I shrugged.
"Habit, I don't like being recognized." He nodded.
"I don't care anymore." He smirked and his eyes darted around the ring. "It feels different tonight." He began to stretch. I nodded and did a few more stretches to loosen up then looked around as the Ref came out a troubled look on his face.
"You two." He waved us over. "I just got the news. Blunt weaponry is allowed and there's a wild card being played during your match." I nodded. I had seen a few wild cards being played but never had one in any of my matches. I mind linked the information to Rodger.
'What the fuck? I wasn't told about this…' I saw him getting on his phone. The Bulldog snorted.
"Put my weapon by the side." He looked to me. "I don't intend on using it." I nodded.
"Same. Why was weaponry added to our match?" The ref pulled his walkie talkie and relayed our wishes to the ring staff as well as ask about the weaponry. The answer we got was inconclusive and heavy sledgehammers were placed ring side. The Bulldog growled slightly and looked to a man on his side of the ring who seemed just as flustered as Rodger. He signed a few sentences and the man signed back.
"What's the wild card?" I asked. The Bulldog shrugged as he turned back to look at me.
"No clue, but it isn't the first time they pulled shit like this on me. The first time a wild card was played on me I wasn't allowed to use my left arm, second time weapons were tossed into the ring, third time they opened the floor of the ring and it turned into a chain match." I looked up causing the Bulldog to glance up too and sighed. "No chains."
"That's good?" He shrugged.
"One way to find out." The announcement was made and a mutter went through the croued. The ref glanced around then nodded and waited for Bella to finish her round. She gave me a look of concern before ducking out of the ring.
The ref leant closer to us and waved us in to listen. He looked around and sighed then began to speak very softly so no one could overhear him.
"Be careful tonight. Something isn't right. No one knows who allowed the change in the rules around your match, but it was issued from higher up."
"Sounds bribe-y to me..." The Bulldog muttered then stood back to his starting position. I nodded in agreement and took my position. The Ref saw the signal and waved his hand.
"Banshee are you ready?" I nodded "Bulldog are you ready?" He nodded. "Be careful." He counted down then raised his arm. The bell sounded and the match had begun.
