Chapter 15: Keep Both Hands on the Wheel

MAXX’s POV:

I was rapidly growing concerned that the points I’d been earning as a new mate were about to expire. I was typically able to keep calm, and make decisions and be confident in them. Then again, that was easy to do when your decisions were typically made for you.

I know that might sound bad, but it was a life I had enjoyed for a hearty twenty-seven years. I suppose that about made me due for a tremendous life shift.

Being with AJ was completely different. I had never been in a relationship before. And now I found myself in the most high stakes conversation of my life. Not that I wanted to describe AJ as a ticking time bomb, I definitely didn’t feel that way! But things were escalating pretty damned fast.

I just hoped I could keep up.

“I’m sorry I approached you with jokes.” I said, carefully. “I was trying to diffuse the tension with humor, because the things you told me just now were all very big, and I wasn’t sure how else to address them. I’m sorry.”
