Chapter 34: Trust Her

Alex POV

“Loren, this isn’t you talking,” I said to her, pleading for her to see reason. “This is that stupid Prophecy, that dark witch, and your fear talking. We can get through this together by doing this the right way.”

Loren looked away from me, her eyes fixed upon the white snow.

“The ‘right’ way does not seem to have been working,” she said, “not for me, not for you and certainly not for our friends who have given up so much just to help me.

“How much more time do we have to waste? Do we wait until one of our friends dies before we’re ready to do whatever is necessary?

“Well, I’m not. I’m going to learn Dark Magic so that I can access the power of Roses and put an End to Amedis. I’ll face whatever consequences there are after that.”

She turned to leave but I grabbed her arm.

“Loren, Please...don’t,” I pleaded with her. I felt tears begin to swell in my eyes and my voice begin to crack. “You are not in this alone!”
