Chapter 4: Don't Unleash It Yet

“Captain Yund,” a young woman, suited up in a tactical battle suit with weapons covering nearly every inch of her, approached the captain of the starship, Unchained, “we are having more trouble than we anticipated.

The Captain pushed a steady yellow button on her control console, the light turned green, and a series of symbols appeared on the monitor. The Captain nodded approvingly at the screen and turned to face the young woman, “What seems to be the problem Aliorah?”

Aliorah gestured over towards the mission kiosk at the center of the bridge, “May I?”

The Captain nodded in approval and followed Aliorah to the kiosk. Aliorah turned the machine on and began frantically searching through the hundreds of files until finally, “Ah, okay, here it is,” Aliorah dragged the image of a specific file to the middle of the kiosk and then spread her hands out to pull up all the information contained within.

“What exactly am I looking at Aliorah?”

“Apologies ma’am,” Aliorah spun the display so that it was facing the Captain and began pointing out certain things as she explained, “This is a map of Gahldor and its major population centers. As we know, when the Empire arrived on Gahldor, they cleared out most of the cities and now nearly all Gahldorians live at the various CCs spread across the planet.’

The Captain raised her eyebrow at Aliorah, “CCs?”

“Oh,” Aliorah nervously laughs to herself for a moment before continuing on, “I shortened Control Camp designations on all the reports to CCs, guess I got into the habit of saying it like that,” the Captain gave Aliorah a quick smirk of approval and then held out her hand, encouraging Aliorah to continue with her task.

Aliorah used the kiosk controls to zoom in on two locations which are very close together, “This is Control Camp Foxtrot, CC.F,” Aliorah swiped to the left a couple times until another Control Camp came into view, “Aaaand this, is,” Aliorah points at the map, “is CC.G. They aren’t the easiest targets on the planet but out of all the Control Camps they are by far the closest together. No matter where else we try and pull this off, we won’t be able to make it to any other Camps before the Enforcers arrive, and we don’t have enough forces to deal with Mr. Bedlam and his friends.”

The Captain studies the map for a few seconds and nods in understanding, “So you wanna try and liberate two… CCs, instead of just one?”

“Yes ma’am,” Aliorah waits for the Captain to interject but she never does, “If I may be candid, Captain, our recruitment has been beyond unexceptional lately, and the Unleashed are losing more members than we are gaining with each passing day. We can’t allow an opportunity like this to slip away.”

The Captain returns to her control console and motions for Aliorah to join her. The Captain presses the button on the console again and it turns back to yellow as the symbols on the screen disappear. Aliorah presses a few buttons on the kiosk and the projections flicker for a moment before cutting out. Aliorah then quickly joins the Captain at the controls.

“I officially approve your mission to liberate CC.G and CC.F but be quick about it. The stealth tech we’re using is only a prototype and I’ve received multiple alerts from the sensory team that the Edenytes are on the verge of discovering our location. You don’t have much time left before we must evacuate.”

Aliorah salutes the Captain by thrusting her fist across her chest in a horizontal fashion and then heads off to give the order for the attack. Aliorah heads down to Mission Deployment and meets up with her assault unit.

Aliorah clears her throat and begins to brief her team as they all strap on their various weapons and armor, “Nothing complicated about what we’re doing today guys,” Aliorah looks around the room, making sure she has everyone’s attention. Despite all the soldiers getting their gear ready, every eye in the room is trained on her, “we are liberating CC.G and CC.F, they are in close proximity, and we should have plenty of time to deal with both locations…” Aliorah takes a long pause, “of course, provided nothing goes wrong.”

One of the soldiers interjects, “Good thing none of our plans ever go wrong,” some hushed laughter fills the room. Aliorah hold up her to shush her comrades, despite cracking a slight smile herself.

“Let’s try and stay serious guys. This is extremely time sensitive. The Captain just informed me that our stealth systems are on the verge of failing us. We have one chance to pull this off and we have to be quick. Incyn?”

A soldier with every type of explosive imaginable strapped to his body looks up from cleaning a smudge off a sub-nautical detonator, “Yeah boss?”

Aliorah smiles to herself and to her comrade, “You ready to knock on the front door?”

A wild grin displays itself on Incyn’s face, “Hell yeah, Ali, let’s get this thing goin’!”

“Alright, everyone else get ready for drop deployment! As soon as Incyn’s “doorbell” makes contact we’re boots on the ground!

The soldiers begin cheering and chanting.

“Bring the pain!”

“Drop!”

“Ding-dong!”

“Drop!”

“Unleashed!”

“Drop!”

“UNLEASHED!”

“UNLEASHED!”

“UNLEASHED!”

Aliorah opens the drop door as the Unchained flies into position above Control Camp Gamma, “GO! GO! GO!”

Incyn pulls out a what looks like a handheld gun from his back pocket and aims it right at the roof of Control Camp Gamma. He lines up the shot, the wind rips through his hair and he takes a deep breath. The wild grin returns to Incyn’s face.

POP!

Incyn’s weapon fires and a small cylinder flies down towards the Control Camp as Incyn begins to count down, “Three. Two. One…” the assault team looks down with anticipation, “Boom.”

BOOOM!!!!
