Chapter 11: Clues

"Well, good morning, Emily," Duncan said, his voice like a sledgehammer in my already aching head. "How are you feeling?"

I glared at him and sat behind my computer, re-evaluating my life choices. I had stayed up late last night, eating too much pizza and drinking too much wine. This wasn't on purpose, but instead, it was thoughts of Ezra that kept me awake. Who was he? And why was he so intent on keeping me away from the king? There was something more to this case; I just needed to figure out what.

"Where are we with Amos?" I asked, laying my head down on my desk. The cool wood seemed to alleviate my headache ever so slightly, and I sighed. "Any sightings?"

"Not a single one," Andrew said quietly. "We've had people looking all over the city. It's like he vanished into thin air."

"Can't say I'm too surprised. I'm sure there's a lot of hiding places for vamps around here."

"Unless he's dead," Duncan said next to me. I lifted my head to stare at him.

"You think he is?"
