Chapter 21: Close Call

An hour later, we were sitting in the kitchen, surrounded by the club staff. I rubbed my eyes in exhaustion. It had taken Wilson a good thirty minutes to go through all of his information on the secret underground vampire club, and then we immediately came here to get absolutely nowhere.

The staff all sat around us, with varying degrees of disapproving gazes. Some were sitting there simply blank-faced, while others outright glared at us. Getting them to answer any questions about anything had been a perpetual nightmare.

Truly, I didn't get it. What was it about these vampires that spurred such loyalty? They'd killed two of their own, for God's sake! They can't seriously be this attached to the vampires. What in the world could be in it for them?

"What's in it for us?" A sharp voice said from across the room.
