Chapter 46: War

"Tell me, Ezra," I snarled at him as I paced the library. "Tell me you didn't know."

Betrayal was running rampant through me. After Richard had said what he did about my father, I had stared blank-faced, entirely too stunned to even consider engaging with him. Ezra then shut down the gathering and hustled us out of the room. He stared at me from his perch on the couch, watching me pace back and forth.

"Of course, I didn't know," Ezra said, looking offended at the very idea. "Do you think I wouldn't tell you if I knew something like that? I'm still trying to wrap my head around it myself."

"How is this possible? How can I be his daughter? And how could you not have known? You were his bodyguard. You went everywhere with him."

He ran his hands through his hair. "I don't know, Emily! He didn't take me everywhere with him. Hell, I didn't even know he was spending time with a human. He could be very secretive when he wanted."
