“You did WHAT!?” Zane cried, throwing his arms into the air.
“You told me to get closer to her,” Skylar pointed out.
“I told you to learn about her, charm useful information out of her. Not take her on late night ice-skates and kiss her!” the general snarled. He shook his head, ponytail bobbing back and forth.
“She hasn’t been easy to charm,” the king shrugged.
“Did you at least get something useful out of her?” the general asked.
Skylar scoffed and looked out the nearest window. Useful? Probably not. The princess had made a point to emphasize the differences he had with his father. At first, he had thought she’d been mocking him. It hadn’t been like that, though. Skylar had realized she was reminding him that he was his own person – a thought he’d been denying for a long time.
“From a military perspective, no,” Skylar admitted with a sigh.
