Chapter 34: The Invitation

“Oh?” Illyra asked putting her hands on her hips.

“What should I say?” Skylar asked turning back to the window.

“Honestly, I don’t know,” Illyra shrugged, even though Skylar was turned away from her.

“You don’t seem that excited about it,” he pointed out.

“I don’t really know what to feel,” Illyra admitted, wrapping her arms around herself. “It was obviously a surprise and… we live half a world away from each other.”

“Which is the least complicating issue, considering Theros and Olive would have plenty to say about us,” Skylar added.

“Yeah,” Illyra sighed.

Suddenly, she wasn’t sure why she had made the trip to tell Skylar in person. If she’d gone ahead and had the baby on her own, no one in her kingdom would have cared. It wasn’t like having children out of wedlock was unheard of in royal families. She was a queen that had to carry on her family line.
