Chapter 39: The Tides of War

With the help of Hunter’s fireworks, Skylar and his army were able to push the birds back to their nesting grounds. They remained confined there while Skylar met with his Lieutenants to figure out what to do with them.

“They will get complacent again and regrow their numbers, coming back down the mountains,” one said, Lieutenant Robin.

They’d gathered in his central war tent while the other soldiers were treated for wounds and frostbite. Even winter fae could succumb to the cold when exposed to blizzards for days on end. Zane was the one who could influence the weather and lessen the effects of the blizzards.

Skylar wished Zane was with him now. The mountain had grown treacherous with snowstorms since his departure. It made their fight more difficult, but it made the birds easier to push back. They didn’t want to be out in the snow and high winds any more than the fae.
