Chapter 6: Who am I?

Celeste POV

The sun feels warm on my face as I slowly open my eyes. As I glance around, I let out a yawn. I realize I wasn't in my room. My stomach starts to turn. I am not sure where I am.

Memories from last night flood my mind. But where is Oliver? While I look at the door and swing my legs over the bed, I try to hear or smell Oliver. In the doorway, there is a faint odor of Oliver's. After reaching the door, I swing it open. As I exit the room, an unknown man looks up. His face is blank, and he reaches out for me.

"Luna, are you ok? Take it easy." I glare at him. Why is he calling me Luna? Have I been mistaken for someone else?

"What happened to Oliver and my name isn’t Luna!?" I say, clenching my teeth.

"It's ok Luna, you should rest. Oliver will meet you back in your room." He grabs my arm and attempts to guide me inside. As I growl and grab his arm, I flip him over my shoulder and he lands on his back.

“Don't touch me, where is Oliver!?“ I hiss in exasperation.

The sound of footsteps behind me causes me to become defensive. The scent of sandalwood calms me down and makes me turn to look at those approaching me.

Oliver!

I rush over to him and jump into his arms. I feel tears well up in my eyes.

“You are okay!” I give him a squeeze, he puts me down.

"I am okay, I see you are gaining your strength back." He chuckles, nodding his head at the man lying on the ground. Although I wasn't paying attention, Oliver wasn't alone. I turn to see the man he was walking with.

It was Zayden.

As realization hits me, my cheeks turn red. I look back to Oliver.

“Where am I?”

"Zayden brought you back to his estate so that you could rest. That man over there is one of his bodyguards, and he is responsible for guarding your room.”

Mentally, I facepalm myself. Last night, I woke up in a hotel room. My mind since then has been in a fight-or-flight mode. The expression on Zayden's face is a mixture of anger, laughter, and jealousy.

"Thank you for your help yesterday and I apologize for hurting him." I point to the man who was still on the ground.

"It's okay Celeste. He ought to have handled the situation differently."

With a growl, he prompted the man on the floor to get up. The man bows to me and leaves.

Oliver smiles as he sees my embarrassment.

"Let me formally introduce you two." He smiles thinly but politely.

"You might have met Zayden before, but this is the CEO of the biggest corporation in the country." \

I knew he looked familiar, way to go Celeste, you just wiped out his bodyguard. \

He extends his hand to me.

"Nice to meet you Zayden, I apologize for my behavior earlier." I shake his hand, as a sudden rush of excitement and goosebumps spread throughout my arm. What is this sensation? I swear his dark eyes are getting darker. His smell is so wonderful, but that's not all.

His grip on my hand is warm and inviting. But my eyes were drawn to his muscular arms. I am just blown away by their muscular beauty. I wonder what it would be like to be wrapped up in his arms.

"Do you like what you see Celeste?" He lets out a low chuckle that sends shivers down my spine.

As quickly as possible, I let go of his hand. I am sure my face is red. At this point, I am a walking embarrassment. Mentally, I groan.

"How about you go wash up so we can have breakfast?" Oliver says icily.

"Yes, that would be a good idea..."

As I turn to leave, I take one last look at Zayden. My heart beats faster with a rush of heat as I gaze into his eyes.

I quickly distance myself from them both.

Ten minutes later. I'm finally in the shower.

The water feels amazing as it runs down my body. Since I have settled down, my nervous system seems to be calmer. I remember last night's events.

Do vampires exist as well as wolves and witches? My neck was bitten, and Daniel told me that I was a wolf. Zayden also said that I was a wolf. Argh. The waterfalls onto my face as I rub my temples. Nothing makes sense to me anymore!

I playback the dream I had last night when I passed out.

I was lazing in a lavender field, I was bathed in the light of the stars and the moon. The black wolf that I dreamed about before approached me. The wolf placed its head on my arm and nuzzled my neck. We lay there together for a few minutes. It brought me comfort while I slept, and that was all I dreamt of.

It was peaceful and picturesque. I take a deep breath and breathe out. No matter how wonderful the dream was, it was just that, a dream. I scrub my head harder and hope to refocus my mind.

I left the bathroom to find Zayden sitting on a chair, arms crossed, and looking up at me.

I felt myself losing my breath.

“Umm… Hi... What are you... doing here?” I say hesitantly.

"I just wanted to make sure you were okay and to let you know breakfast was ready." He stands up and walks towards me. It's almost impossible to stand.

"Thanks for letting me know Zayden," I reply, trying to put some distance between us.

I would’ve moved back more, but I ran into a wall.

He stops when he is within reach of me. Tilting his head, he smiles. He reaches out to me and with his finger he traces it along my cheek. It was as if his touch was sending electric shocks through my body and I found myself unable to move. I look into his eyes while licking my lips. He was watching me and he moved a bit closer.

My mind snaps back to reality. I smack his hand.

“You know it is not a gentlemanly thing for you to touch a lady without her permission.” With a glare, I duck under his arm and move past him.

"There's my fierce mate." He chuckles and walks past me. He turns and looks back at me.

"Come downstairs, your grandma is here."

I am left speechless when he leaves the room. The rush of adrenaline is pouring through me and I'm thinking about how I'd like to feel his touch again.

Also, what the heck does he mean by 'mate'?

Trying to refocus my mind, I just remembered that Zayden told me my grandma was here. Why is she here? Even so, I must make sure that everything is okay.

I make my way to the dining room in a hurry.

Zayden is sitting at the head of the table; he looks up at me. I could feel the heat rush to my cheeks. I ignore his gaze and I notice that my grandma and Oliver were sitting together, so I ran over to them.

“Grandma!!” I give her a hug and kiss on the cheek. “What are you doing here?”

My grandma pats my hand. "Oliver called me this morning and told me what happened last night. Are you alright my dear?” she asks worriedly.

"Yes, I'm fine, don't worry grandma." I hug her again.

"You should sit down, you need to eat." She squeezes my arm.

With a nod, I take a seat next to Oliver. Zayden doesn't seem happy when I glance up at him. After noticing Zayden's unhappy expression, I peer over at Oliver and see his lips twitching as if he were going to laugh. What is wrong with those two?

After I am done eating, I look towards my grandma. There is an expression of discomfort on my grandma's face, and she seems to want to speak.

“Are you okay grandma?” She smiles weakly.

"Yes my darling, but how about a walk? After a big meal, my legs need a stretch!”

"Definitely!” I offer my arm to help her up. Her gaze turns to Zayden.

"Thanks for breakfast Zayden, please let the guards know we're going for a walk." Zayden nods and a man enters the dining room and nods his head at us.

Following the man, we enter the backayard via a patio. We were in awe. It has a garden with flowers of all kinds and a pond in the center.

Seeing a swinging bench, I led my grandma to it. Together we sit on the white swing, it was pretty with green vines that wraps around the post, I inhale the sweet scent of flowers.

"Sweet pea, we need to talk." She looks towards the pond lost in thought.

"I would be glad to talk, Grandma. What is it you want to talk about?" She turns to me and sighs.

"It's finally time to tell you who you really are—the truth." My stomach clenches, and I freeze.

“What do you mean?” She looks away from me and at the pond.

"Celeste, you're not like any other human being."

“What in the world do you mean?”

My grandma didn't laugh or smile.

"My dear Celeste, what I am about to tell you is the truth. Listen to your grandmother.”

In her tone, she was firm and serious. It was hard for me to swallow.

"I'll listen."

She looks at the blue sky and then looks at me, grasping my hand.

"The blood that pumps through your veins is filled with the blood of your father, who was an Alpha Wolf. Your mother is descended from a powerful witch from long ago." As she speaks, her hands tremble.

"As a child, you had a seal placed on you to conceal your power. You are all-powerful, both physically and magically. On the night of your birthday, you were able to see a vampire hiding his presence, and your sense of smell was heightened. It looks like your seal will soon be broken. We cannot protect you anymore. Apparently, you found your mate from what Oliver told me." She smiles sadly.

"Your mate will protect you and you have Oliver to help you. They will both protect you.” Her eyes well up with tears.

Is my grandmother losing her mind? I am speechless. What's up with the wolves, vampires, and mates? Did someone poison the water supply?

"Grandma, none of that makes sense at all. The vampires and wolves don't exist." She gives me a stern look to indicate she's not joking.

"You're not joking... You're serious right now?"

Wow. I can't believe what I'm hearing. She must be joking.

The scent of sandalwood surrounds me.

"She is not joking Celeste." As I turn to look, I see Zayden behind us with Oliver.
