His jaw is rigid as he looks down at me, his eyes stormy and so dark blue that they are nearly black. 

"If you meant nothing then this would be easier," he says. His hands are trembling, fisted in my shift and I press myself against him. "If you meant nothing," he says, his lips just above mine. "Then I would not have to walk away."

What am I supposed to do with an unconscious vampire and a dead Crystal Beast? It's said that any other crystal beast in the area will be able to sense the death of one of their own and will come to the spot to take revenge so this isn't the best situation I've ever found myself in. And the vampire in question looks like a sleeping god covered in his own blood and long swathes of white skin showing through the red-soaked shreds of his shirt. 


Of course I give him some of my blood. What else do you do with hurt vampires? I don't know. We don't cover it in field medicine. We don't really talk about it at all! But I do know that blood helps them heal and he certainly seems to have an uncomfortable amount of his blood outside him instead of where it belongs.
