Chapter 28: Contemplation

Another morning came, but Nyatalia decided to remain in bed. Larson offered to stay by her side, but she refused him.

“Won’t it get lonely in here, Your Highness—I mean, Nyatalia?” He bit his tongue for the error.

“How sweet of you to worry about me.” The bunny-eared girl giggled. “I’ll be fine.”

“But—“

She placed a hand on his lips. “I can take care of myself. Go on, child, join her.”

“Are you certain?” He removed her hand with utmost respect.

She nodded, flapped her hand at him and gestured toward the minty-eyed girl peeking through the exit. “Don’t keep her waiting.”

A lump journeyed down Larson’s throat as he walked toward his lover. When he looked back at her, the bunny-eared girl’s cheekbones rose.

Merlize secured her hold on his arm. He was hers, after all, right? With a triumphant grin, she matched his rhythmic steps.
