“Mikki, come on. You’re late for the meeting,” Fitz said as soon as she crossed the gates of the palace. “That's how you plan on convincing the council that you’re up to the task?” 


“Shh… Fitz, please. I’m already nervous enough. I don’t need you to cause me a heart attack now,” she said breathless as she ran towards the meeting room. 


It was going to be her third meeting with the council, the second one after she presented her application to occupy the vacated spot that the spy left when he ran away. 


The council had urgency to fill the abandoned spot, they couldn’t have an empty chair for too long, since they risked having a weak and discredited system.


Six months passed since Mikki confronted the Dark Witch at Tane Forest, and that seemed to have impressed a lot of the members. 


And when Mikki came to show her interest in being part of it, a lot of them seemed excited to have a young royal woman to shake things up a bit.
