Chapter 19 : Perfect Scenario

The arrival of Ivan and Devan did not necessarily make things better.  In fact, it could be said that the situation had worsened from the moment they set foot in this place.

"Get out of the way!  We can charge you with protecting the suspect!"

A loud threatening voice disturbed Deandra's ears.  It didn't stop there, several other yells began to force this young man to come back to his sense.

"There is no solid evidence that this child is the culprit.  But from what I can see, you guys are a bit too much on interrogation.  Doesn't that mean we can also sue you for violence?  Especially in minors."

"Devan?"  Deandra asked in his mind.  Trying to recognize the firm voice he just heard.

Slowly but surely, consciousness forced Dean's eyes to open.  Even with such a dim view he was able to see the silhouettes of two young men standing right in front of him.

It didn't take long for Deandra to immediately realize that the silhouettes were none other than the two friends he had been waiting for for a long time.  As for the five uniformed men standing in front of them, Dean didn't recognize them.

But more or less he could already guess what kind of situation this was.  Unfortunately Dean still couldn't intervene, considering the pain all over his body began to feel along with the return of this young man's consciousness.

"Whoever publicly commits violence against people or property, shall be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of five to six years."

"K.U.H.P.  chapter three hundred and thirty-six.  "Like a chirping bird, Ivan replied to complete his twin brother's words.

The officers gasped.  Their hands were clenched into fists, and their faces were filled with emotion ready to explode.

"Does a snotty kid like you know about the law?!  Don't mess with us!"  one of them bluffed.

But in the face of that panicked scream, Devan was even happier.

"with a maximum imprisonment of seven years, if he intentionally breaks property or if the violence he commits causes any injury."  Devan spoke again while glancing at Deandra who was still sitting languidly behind him.

"K.U.H.P.  chapter… what chapter?"  This time Ivan ended his speech with a question that managed to make Devan squint.

"Seriously Van?"  was the question that was etched on Devan's face when they finally looked at each other.

Then in response, Ivan couldn't help but laugh in awkward.  Making Devan sigh heavily, with a little disbelief in his brother who can still make a joke in this kind of situation.

"Four hundred two to four hundred and six."

Meanwhile a young man behind the two of them couldn't even help but take part in this game.  After answering his two friends, Deandra laughed lightly.

"What are you guys doing?"  he asked between laughs.

Ignoring the handcuffs that still shackled his hands – backwards, Dean looked up.  He lifted his face which was still covered with scars and bruises.

 "You awake?"

As usual Ivan is always fast when it comes to Deandra.  He didn't even hesitate to leave his twin side only to come over to Dean who was still sitting in the same spot they had found him.

"Can you wake up by yourself?  Let's move to the seats first!"  Ivan grabbed Dean's arm then led the young man to get up.

With difficulty, Deandra walked towards the only chair in the room.  The pain all over his body that being forced to move, made his journey to the chair feel so far away.

"How's the current situation?"  asked the young man when he finally managed to sit on the chair.

"Pretty messy.  Not only did they force us to hand you over, they also tried to snatch the evidence from Devan's cellphone."

Deandra nodded lightly.  Ivan's explanation was enough to make him understand what had happened while he was unconscious.

"How long have I been unconscious for?"

"Since we found you?  About ten minutes."  Ivan replied while glancing at the clock that was wrapped around his right hand.

After all the explanations, Deandra's face also showed his response to all the situations they were currently facing.

But what was painted on the bruised face was not anxiety.  But a triumphant smile that looked very inappropriate, considering that they were now being cornered.

"So far it's still as planned."  The sentence stuck in his mind.

Deandra set his sights on Devan who was still standing proudly, blocking the range of the officers from him and Ivan.

"Dev.  Can you last five more minutes?  If they play hands, it's actually good.  But try not to reply, okay?"

The stinging in his ears made Devan turn around.  The way he looked at his childhood friend seemed like he wanted to kill him.  Of course, what he got from Deandra was a sly smile, which somehow calmed this young man's heart a little.

"Yes, as long as every blow they hit me, I'll pass it on you."  Devan smiled sarcastically.

Deandra did not have time to confirm or reject the offer.  Because Devan first straightened his gaze again.  As if what he said was just a joke.  Although of course, it's not impossible that he will actually ask for the payment.

 "Psst Sir... there really is."

"The article they mentioned actually existed."

Devan raised an eyebrow.  He had been curious about a group of men in uniform in front of him who were busy playing with their cellphones.  Then their whispers managed to make this young man laugh lightly.

 "Have you guys confirmed it??"

Starting from provocation, and ending with open insults.  How could men of this age endure it?  Shame mounts in every increasingly cornering situation.  Some of them even had red faces.

"Don't be so impudent!  Dont you know that there are laws that ensnare people who try to protect criminals?!  You can also be subject to legal snares!"  Snapped one of them while pointing at Devan's face.

Their attitude disgusted Devan.  But Deandra asked him to endure and not fight.  For some reason, Devan felt the need to obey the young man.

"What to do?  That's right.  So it's okay, gentlemen, get rid of me and my brother with your authority.  That wouldn't be called violence would it?  Except ...."

In that short pause, Devan's low smile slowly turned into a defiant grin.

"This clown behind me was not the culprit."

The cold hit the nape of their neck.  With his age and school uniform that sticks to his body, Devan has been able to bring down mens who are clearly far more experienced than him in law.

Even Ivan could feel the pressure Devan was making just by looking at his twin brother's back.  His eyes were filled with admiration.  Which of course was inversely proportional to the wry smile shown by the young man by his side.

"The clown he said?"  Dean couldn't help but be offended.

But he also realized that it was a small fee for him to have ordered Devan to stand as a fortress.  Moreover, Dean was the one who knew best that the bluff would not last long.

As expected, slowly but surely the already furious men swallowed their logic and fear.  With their fists tightly clenched, they looked ready to launch an attack.  Not to seize Deandra, but to vent anger on Devan.

 "Son of a bitch!!"

 Smack!

 "Dev!"

Ivan shouted quite loudly just as he saw his twin stumble backwards from one heavy blow to the face.  Suddenly he left Deandra's side to hold Devan's body before the young man fell to the floor.

"Are you okay?!"  Ivan looked at Devan's face after helping his brother back to his feet.

Devan feels sick.  The punch marks on his cheeks easily turned into bruises.  He wiped the blood on the corner of his lips as he smiled.  An annoyed smile that he flashed at Deandra who just sat sweetly by his side.

"One."  Devan spoke in his mind.  Reminds Dean of their agreement – which he unilaterally agrees to.

"It hurts Van.  There's no way it's not."  Devan said, sarcastically.  In response to his worried twin's question.

A hint of annoyance rose in Ivan's heart, which was then reflected in the expression on his face when he looked at Devan.

But even though he noticed the look on his brother's face, Devan couldn't really respond to Ivan because he was now focused on the men who were ready to launch a follow-up attack.

"Give up Brat!  Even though your friend was not the perpetrator in the previous case, he has already become the perpetrator of the attack on the officer!  He will still be punished!  Haven't you seen our partner's condition earlier?  One of them could be blind if he weren't use a glasses!"

This time, neither Ivan nor Devan had an answer to the bluff of one of the men in front of them.  Because maybe what they say is true.  In fact, Deandra had already attacked five of them here.  Although the method is still difficult to explain.

The atmosphere became even more tense.  Silence emerged while Devan and Ivan hesitated a little.  On their side, Deandra didn't look like he wanted to argue.  With his hands still shackled behind his back, he sat so relaxed with his legs crossed.

Then in the midst of this complicated situation, there was yet another – or rather one, surprise.  Which managed to surprise almost everyone in the interrogation room, apart from Devan and Deandra themselves.

"These gentlemen are right, Son.  They are protected by law.  Civilians like us can't attack them."

The sound of loafers' footsteps could be heard approaching.  From the direction of the hallway to the wide open door of the room, slowly but surely his figure is getting clearer.  Ironically, as the figure became clearer, the disapproval expression on Devan's face became even clearer.

"As good citizens, we shouldn't go against the law."  He spoke again, just as he reached the doorway of the interrogation room.

A tall man, whose good looks seemed unable to be eroded by age.  The charming smile that is now etched on his face, is the smile that everyone always sees on every television screen they have.

Apart from one of his full of proud sons, anyone would be mesmerized just by looking at his face from the small screen.

"Uncle Steve?  Long time no see.  Since when did you come home from Paris?"  not wasting time, Deandra immediately greeted the man at the door.

"It's only been about a week.  How are you Dean?"  the man smiled sweetly.  Although the questions he asked were full of satire.

"Ever been worse than this."  Deandra also smiled as he responded to the man.

This is not an unexpected situation.  In fact, the twins had been waiting for the man's arrival for a while.

The only thing that Devan and Ivan didn't expect was the fact that Deandra didn't seem surprised by the man's arrival.  As if that too was a part of his prediction.

 To be continued....
