Fight with Mother

I don't know when things changed, or maybe they didn't change and she has always been this way. I really can't say. I just know I have always been closer to my dad. He has always been in my corner and super supportive of me. As far back as I can remember, my dad always took the time to play with me and talk with me. My mother was there and we did things as a family, but she never seemed to warm to me. Maybe dad is how he is to make up for how mother is. All I know is that I'm hanging by a thread with her and I really don't want that thread to snap.

The packhouse has 5 floors. The bottom floor has all of the common areas including a gaming room, a theater, the dining room attached to the kitchen, and 2 living areas. The basement houses our library. A library in the basement is kind of weird, but it is so expansive and that is the biggest space we have. The second floor house our offices, conference rooms, and guest bedrooms. The third floor is for Gemma as Gamma, the fourth floor is for Lana as Beta, and I'm on the top floor. There is a staircase that winds up the middle of the floors which allows each floor to be split into two ends. My parents are on the other end of my floor. They decided to stay in the packhouse until I find my mate. After that they will get a house built since I would need the space for kids and whatnot.

I make my way to the other end of the floor, trying to mentally prepare for what is about to happen. Before I can knock on the door, it opens and my dad is standing there. He doesn't look upset, but he does look worn out. "Hey daddy." I hug and kiss him on the cheek. "Is mother in there?" He just looks at me and rolls his eyes, stepping aside to let me in. My mother is sitting on the couch with a glass in her hand.

"Oh, I see you finally decided to grace me with your presence." I sigh and sit in the chair across from my mother.

"Now Tasha, don't start. She is here so let the rest of it be." My dad sits down next to my mother and pats her back.

"You wanted to talk mother."

"I hate it when you call me that you know. I have told you that before. You call your father 'daddy', yet I'm stuck with 'mother'." She's right. I started calling her mother at a young age. She was always cold to me, and I felt that 'mother' fit the relationship we had. My father was always the warm and loving parent so he got a term that meant more.

"I'm sure that isn't what you wanted to talk about." My eyes don't leave her face and I sit up straight to wait for the mess.

"You were so rude today to our guest. You just had to be the Alpha of this pack instead of waiting for your mate and being the Luna. As Alpha, you have certain responsibilities and today, you did not do what was expected of you." I knew it was going to be about lunch today. I really don't want to deal with this right now.

'Let me have control!'

'Sky, I'm not going to do that.'

'She is disrespecting us. We are her Alpha and she is acting like she is in charge.'

'I get that, but just let me handle this.'

"Mother, when Alpha Kent arrived, where was I?"

"That hardly mat….." I hold my hand up to stop my mother from ignoring the question. Her eyes get big and I can see the anger in them.

"Please, just answer the question."

"You were at the office," she grumbles. I nod my head slightly.

"So, when it was decided that the Alpha would be here, I wasn't here nor was I supposed to be. I just happen to come home when he was here. I told you both that I had work to do and the Alpha was not here to see me. Again, I fail to see how it was my responsibility to entertain someone who was here to see you." I notice my mother grimace more and more as I speak. She can get as angry as she likes, but nothing I'm saying is wrong. My mother turns to my dad.

"This is what I'm talking about! She is so rude and wants to pick and choose when she will act like an Alpha. You should have never given her the title, she can't handle it." I'm fuming and struggling to keep Sky in. She wants to break free so badly, but that is still my mother and I don't want that on my conscience.

"Tasha, stop." My mother's eyes grow immensely and her mouth pops open. "There is no reason to make this such a huge thing. He was here to visit you and Peaches just happened to be here. She wasn't obligated to do anything and you know that." My mother slams her glass on the end table beside her and the glass shatters, amber liquid spilling all over the table.

"That is the problem now!" My mother rises from the couch and stands in front of my dad. "You are always coddling her and making excuses for her. She knows what it means to be in charge and here you are letting her get away with not doing what she is expected to do." My mother is leaning down and pointing a finger at my dad. Daddy doesn't flinch, but just looks at mother while she is yelling. He clears his throat and crosses his arms over his chest.

"The big question is…..why was he here visiting you?" My mother straightens up and just stares at my dad.

"Yes mother, I was wondering that too. Why was he here? I have never known you to be overly friendly to any Alpha before." My mother looks at me and back at my dad.

"You two will NOT gang up on me when there is a bigger issue here."

"Tasha, love, just answer the question. What was he doing here?" My mother looks around the room as if she is expecting someone to jump out and save her. There is no one but the 3 of us and she seems to realize that. She sits back down on the couch with a defeated look.

"He was here about Janessa. He and I have been discussing it and they would be a wonderful match. He is already an Alpha and his pack neighbors ours. We can combine the packs and she can be his Luna," mother's eyes brightens the more she explains their plan.

'That's it!'

'Sky, no!'

Before I can stop her, Sky takes over and slams our fist on the end table next to our chair. The table shatters under our fist and my parents just look at us bewildered. "I'VE HEARD ENOUGH!" SHIT! This isn't good. Sky is trying to breathe and compose herself to speak so I take that opportunity to regain control. I look at the broken table and back to my parents.

"I apologize. I couldn't keep Sky contained." My dad nods at me in understanding and my mother looks upset and a bit scared. "I will replace the table." I sit back in my chair wearily. I put my elbows on my knees and hold my head in my hands. This is a lot to take in and Sky breaking through did not help. I look back up at my mother. "You do not get to make any choices for me or my life."

"Bu…." my dad puts his hand on my mother's arm and shakes his head at her.

"I'm an adult and I get to make my own choices. I decided, long ago, I wanted to run this pack; wanted to be Alpha. I worked my ass off to be worthy of the position. I will not have my hard work taken away from me simply because I'm a woman and YOU feel that a woman's place is behind a man. I'm more than capable of doing this job and I'm doing it well. If that weren't the case, daddy would have stepped in already." I sit up straight and stare directly at my mother. "You get NO say in who I live my life with. I WILL NOT be with Alpha Kent no matter what he or you think or plan. I WILL have my mate and I will wait as long as necessary to have him." I rise out of my chair. "If you don't like how I'm running things, you don't have to stay. I don't want to have this discussion again. Mother, please show me some respect as your daughter and as your Alpha and leave this alone." I don't wait for a response as I turn and leave the room. I can barely hear my mom speaking so low, but what she said was clear: "We'll see about that." I run down the stairs and out of the house, shifting once I hit the grass. I just have to get out of there and Sky needs a run.
