I spent the day trying to come up with a plan to figure out who owns the PO Box. I watched the post office for a bit, trying to figure out where I could set up myself or cameras. The problem is there is no known schedule of when the box is checked or how often.
Monday morning arrived before I knew it and I'm not anticipating all of the mess we will have to deal with at the office. I arrive 20 minutes early and see Katie at her desk.
"Hey cutie! How was your weekend?"
"Hi! It was okay, though I wish I could have seen you," Katie responds with a pout on her face. Yeah she isn't making this hard at all. I just need to keep buttering her up and I should be able to get any information I need.
"Aww, we will figure that out soon." I wink at her as I head to my area. I take the time to check my emails and phone messages. I hear Katie speaking and when I look up, all I can see is a vision. Janessa is gorgeous as always in her gray, pencil dress. It stops just below her knees and hugs every curve she has. She is wearing some black heels that look like they were made for her. Gemma is walking closely behind her. As Janessa walks to her office door she calls my name. I get up and head to her office, walking in after Gemma.
"Good morning ladies." I greet them and wait by the door for instruction.
"Good morning, Mr. Case," Janessa starts. "We will be meeting with a, um, colleague of mine in about 20 minutes and I would like you to be in the room." I notice the grimace on Gemma's face and wonder what the issue is with this colleague.
"I will go ahead and get some coffee and pastries ready for the meeting." Janessa nods at me and I head back out of her office. I go to the kitchen to get the carafe set up as well as the pastries. We get them delivered fresh every morning and always are sure to have extra just in case. I get everything I need and place it on a cart. I wheel everything back into the office where I see a man sitting across from Janessa's desk. Gemma sits to the right of Janessa, at the end of the desk, and she looks like she is ready to kill. I wheel the cart to the left of Janessa's desk.
"Thank you Mr. Case. This is Mr. Marshal, Mr. Marshal, this is my assistant, Mr. Case." The man ignores me all together and keeps his eyes trained on Janessa.
"Come now love. Why are you being so formal? It's just Frank, you know that." Janessa puts a strained smile on her face. I already don't like this guy. I don't like how he is looking at Janessa. I pour the coffee for everyone and take a seat off to the side so I can take notes for the meeting.
"So, Mr. Marshal…." Janessa is cut off by 'Frank' waving his hand at her with an expectant look on his face. "Uh, Frank…." Janessa's reward is a crooked smile from him, one that I definitely do not like. "Do you think you could help us out? We need a more invasive background check on a few employees and we need help figuring out who has been keeping tabs on us." Frank lets a moan slip out while he rubs his chin in thought. This guy is a greaseball. He has bright blue eyes and a goatee. His blond hair looks as if he hasn't washed it in a while. He is extremely pale and thin. He reaches over to grab her hand that is resting on her desk. I notice the slightest flinch, but I don't think he notices.
"I'd be more than happy to help you. For a price of course." He is stroking her hand and I can feel my anger get stronger. Who the hell does he think he is that he can just touch her like that? I want to rip his hands off so he has no way to touch Janessa. Janessa coughs and slowly pulls her hands away.
"Sure, we can discuss, um, payment. I'm sure I can come up with the money." Janessa puts a smile on her face that is completely fake. Gemma looks as if she is getting angrier and angrier. Franks leans forward and places his elbows on the desk.
"The payment I'm thinking of won't require money dear." I can see the discomfort in Janessa's eyes and it takes everything in me to stay in my seat and not tear this man apart. Frank gets up and leans over the desk to caress Janessa's cheek. "I will get back to you with the details and we can go from there." Frank turns and walks out of the room. Gemma looks at Janessa like she is ready to say something.
"Don't....just....don't," Janessa says and Gemma puts her head in her hands and says nothing. I get up and walk over to Janessa. Her head is hanging down and she is rubbing her temples. I clear my throat to get her attention. Janessa looks up at me with worry in her eyes.
"I will be right back." Janessa nods at me and I quickly exit the office. I head to the restroom and check to make sure I'm alone. I go to the metal paper towel dispenser on the wall and smash it with my fist. It crumples as if it were made out of cardboard and my fist is covered in blood.
The entire scene I just witnessed pissed me the hell off. Where does that asshole get off touching Janessa like that and implying the things he was? Who the hell does he think he is and why was Janessa just taking it? I walk over to the sink and turn the water on to rinse my fist. I have a long gash, but it isn't deep. I take some paper towel and wrap it around my fist. I look at my reflection in the mirror and am confused at what is looking back at me.
I am pissed and….jealous? Why the fuck am I mad and jealous? Janessa means nothing to me, she is just my boss. Whatever she does in her personal life is literally none of my business. I don't understand why I should even care about what I just saw or what could happen later. I swear, since I started at this office, things have been weird. I have thought things and done things that are not like me. Maybe it is the stress of going after the company all of this time. Janessa James' life is not my concern. I take a deep breath and head out of the restroom with my new determination. I need to get myself together and not lose focus on what I'm here to do.
