I rebonded with the Ancient. And once again, I found comfort in what I had taken for granted.
While the others started on the reconstruction work, Celine and I returned to the secondary camp, where we were able to share the good news. The general response was celebration, but my mind was focused on Katie throughout the evening. We slept the night away at the camp, and in the morning I stepped into the air, creating a giant V-shaped barrier.
She joined us by mid-morning, while everyone else was finishing up packing. I greeted my wife with a hug and kiss. Celine joined us for a group hug. Reunited once again.
We took a much more leisurely pace back to the Temple. We had to travel on the ground, but no monsters interrupted our journey. The monster wave had scared them all off. We slept one night in the wild, and arrived back at the Temple the next evening before sundown.
The five who had stayed home had been hard at work. All the evidence of my fight with them was gone, and a few of the buildings were already back up.
It took the 55 of us a week to finish rebuilding our home to the state it had been in before this whole mess. Our hunting traps were empty, but we had enough food reserves to last for months - hopefully.
Juliana had tried to nurse the Adversary's former wielder back to health, but he refused to eat, and died. With Jack's power, we prepared a cemetery next to the east wall of the Temple of Swords, and buried the nameless victim there.
And with the remainder of our greatest opponent being a memory, we were free to return to the new normalcy. And this was our Rise in Valade.
