Chapter 25: The Delivery

Amanda waved, hoping her wariness didn’t show on her face. Suddenly, the man was running towards them.

“Oh, boy.” She fumbled with her pocket and pulled out the bear spray, ready to mace the man rushing at them when finally, he was out of shadow and visible to her.

It was Levi.

“Thank God,” she sighed, shoving the can back into her pocket.

Levi came to a stop just before her, looking her over for a split second, before he roughly pulled her into his arms, tucking her head beneath his chin. “Thank you,” he rasped, breath hot against the crown of her head. “Thank you.”

She smiled, warm, and returned his embrace.

He drew back, then, and turned a glower on the two wolves cowering behind Amanda. “You two,” he said, glaring, “are in a world of trouble.”

They whimpered.

“You could have gotten killed!” he snapped. “When you didn’t come back by nightfall, I was looking for your bodies! Do you know how worried I was? I thought Jed had gotten you!”
