Chapter 23: Hot Nights, Intense Trials

Marcell’s POV

“Come on, move.” My voice grated against my throat.

Between my a** growing numb from sitting slouched down in my driver’s seat, and the hours I had sat in front of Diego’s house, I was itching for an excuse to weaponize the violence in my veins.

Diego was being overtly careless by bringing Katie to his house. I had tried to reason with him, but my words just spurred him headfirst into his own blindness. Nothing I could ever say to Diego would ever distract him from his target. Katie.

Diego had always been the one out of the two of us to grow easily distracted by the world around him, easily missing the red flags that indicated the true intentions behind someone’s malice.

Diego was always so hyper-focused on what he wanted, what he was trained to do, his eye on the target, and in the past that had worked for him. But now his heart was involved, and it had blinded him more than ever before.
