Chapter 39: It Was Too Easy

Katie’s POV

“So, when can we go to bed?” Olivia asked the room.

Olivia sat draped across the back of the sofa with Marcell’s suit jacket wrapped around her. Her once expensively bright red dress had lost some of its luster. throughout the course of our harrowing evening. Despite it all, she still looked like a queen.

We all seemed to have relaxed in our own ways in the safety that the safe house had provided. The small studio apartment that was located on the South Side of Chicago was cozy in comparison to most of the places I had been exposed to in Diego’s world.

I was quickly realizing, however, that made men don’t ever fully relax. Or their form of relaxation is different than those like Oliva and me. Where we were practically passed out on the sofa, and an old beatdown armchair, Marcell, Diego, and Pauly were plotting our next moves.

“It was too easy,” Marcell said to the room, pausing while cleaning one of his many weapons and placing the black gun on the coffee table.
