Chapter 37

Maybella sat in the still and silent home, in the main dining area. In the next room, the ballroom, waited two of private security that Henry had stay behind for the household. They were young and broad with square jaws and thick forearms, armed with revolvers and rifles. Earlier she had prepped a quick meal of beef and potatoes for the three of them, to which they thanked her and sworn it was the best meal they’d ever had.

I’m sure it was, Maybella thought to herself when she thanked them for their kind words. When she asked for dessert they both insisted on declining as they couldn’t get too weighed down if it came time to do any work. She joked with them the only work they’d get were making the rounds around the property once everyone had gone to bed.
